Oklahoma City Thunder ML (+142) over Golden State Warriors

The Thunder have shown flashes of potential this season, but they enter this matchup with a losing record. However, they’ve been playing some of their best basketball in the last few weeks. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Oklahoma City have taken down the Cavaliers, Nuggets and Nets since mid-January as part of their 8 wins in their last 11 games. Of Oklahoma City’s 3 losses in that span, their losing margin is a combined 11 points, so even when the Thunder lose, it’s been competitive down to the final whistle. Fortunately for SGA and the Thunder, they get the Warriors in a vulnerable spot on Monday.

Golden State has been horrendous on the road this season as they hold a 6-18 record away from San Francisco with a -8.4 MOV and have failed to cover the spread by an average of 7.2 points. They rely on shots from the perimeter to keep them in the game, but Oklahoma City has defended the 3-ball well, ranking as the 10th-best perimeter defense. As long as the Thunder keep the Warriors uncomfortable from deep, they have an excellent chance at completing the upset.

Sacramento Kings ML (+105) over Minnesota Timberwolves

As part of the NBA’s weird scheduling quirks this season, this will be a rematch of Saturday’s game. The Kings lost 117-110 to the Timberwolves in Minnesota just a few days ago, and they will face off again on Sunday night. But this time, I believe Sacramento will win. Minnesota shot over 52% from the field including 45% from deep, which took the attention away from their 19 turnovers on Friday night. Shooting regression seems imminent, as it’s hard to shoot above 50% from the field and nearly 50% from deep 2 games in a row. Meanwhile, the Kings made just 9 3-pointers which was far lower than the 15 3-pointers they averaged in the 4 games before Friday.

The Sacramento injury report continues to be clean while the Timberwolves could be missing several key bench members on Monday. The bottom line is that Friday’s performance was one of Minnesota’s best shooting performances in weeks, and they only won by 7. Sacramento should split this two-game series and leave Minnesota with a win on Monday night.

Washington Wizards win by 11+ (+190) over San Antonio Spurs

The Spurs ended 2022 on a terrible note, and although it’s a new year, it’s the same Spurs team. San Antonio has won just 2 games in January, with those wins coming against the tanking Pistons and a Nets team without Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. And when the Spurs lose, they tend to lose badly. Of their 12 losses in January, 6 of them have come by double-digits. Being without Devin Vassell has proven to be a major obstacle for San Antonio, and their sights might be set on Victor Wembanyama rather than turning their season around.

The Spurs take on the Wizards at a tough time, as losing Kristaps Porzingis to injury and Rui Hachimura to the Lakers has not affected them. It has given Kyle Kuzma the chance to shine, and he’s taken advantage of it. He’s created a dangerous duo with Bradley Beal, and that tandem has won five games in a row including beating Luka Doncic and the Mavericks, Brandon Ingram and the Pelicans and Jalen Brunson and the Knicks. The Spurs are sinking, and the Wizards should be able to capture an easy win by 11+ points.
