NBA Thursday parlay at mega (+1085) odds today 2/9: Bucks make it nine in a row

Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo (34) in the second quarter against the Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

It’s a smaller day in the NBA, as only 8 teams are taking the court. With teams like the Nets and Suns playing, who just completed a blockbuster trade involving Kevin Durant last night, tonight’s NBA games could be hard to predict. That’s why I’m sticking with the teams I pretty much know will perform well, and using the depleted Suns lineup against them.

Denver Nuggets -6 (-110) over Orlando Magic

The Nuggets have won four of their last five games, but that’s a little misleading. Their only loss in that span came as a 30-point rout by the Timberwolves. However, Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope didn’t play as it was the second leg of a back-to-back. Of their four wins in the last week or so, three of them have come by 17 or more points. Denver has been blowing teams out of the water as nobody can guard Jokic in the paint, but when they double-team him, Jokic dishes it out to the perimeter — where the Nuggets are shooting 39.7%, the highest 3-point percentage in the NBA.

As for the Magic, they have height but not the experience to guard Jokic. Orlando has failed to reach the 100-point mark in two of its last four games and is once again in for a long night against one of the best teams in the association. I’ll take Denver with the points as the first leg of this parlay.

Phoenix Suns/Atlanta Hawks Under 224.5 (+132)

Phoenix shocked the world last night by trading for superstar Kevin Durant from the Nets. Durant is still nursing a knee injury so he won’t take the court for a few more weeks, but it’s still a blockbuster move for the Suns. The problem with getting a guy who won’t play for a few weeks and giving up crucial pieces of your rotation is that you will be left very thin for the next few games. Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson were two important members of the starting rotation, so the Suns will need to make up for their 35-40 points per game somehow. With that in mind, I’ll take the alternate under for this matchup. Phoenix will try to slow down the Hawks, as the Suns won’t be able to outshoot them — which should make for a much lower-scoring game than oddsmakers expected. Atlanta might put up 115 points, but I don’t see the Suns scoring well above 100 points.

Milwaukee Bucks win by 11+ (+170) over Los Angeles Lakers

If you don’t want to get traded by LeBron James, make sure you don’t remind people to have fun. Russell Westbrook did just that after the Lakers’ loss to the Thunder, and it turned out to be his final game for Los Angeles. The story of that game was King James passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most points scored in NBA history, and while that’s an exciting moment, Los Angeles still lost. That was its fourth loss in their last six games, and both James and Anthony Davis have been listed as questionable for tonight’s game. Considering the importance of this game, I expect both stars to play. However, that doesn’t stop me from expecting a big win from Milwaukee.

During the Bucks’ eight-game winning streak, they rank 7th in offensive rating. They have scored at least 123 points in six of those games. But the impressive part of Milwaukee’s game has been on the other side of the ball, as it ranks second in defensive rating and first in rebound percentage. Back the Bucks to blow out the Lakers as the final leg of this parlay.
