Best bet for Super Wild Card Weekend: Houston Texans -3 over Pittsburgh Steelers (-110)

Just how much parity is there in the NFL these days? Well, consider this: in 6 playoff games in the upcoming first round, 4 of the road teams are favored. That’s right; 4 wild-card teams are expected to defeat 4 division champions. In the case of Houston vs Pittsburgh, it’s not hard to figure out why. The Texans had too much ground to make up in the AFC South after starting 0-3 and then 3-5, but they have won 9 games in a row and boast the best defense in the entire NFL. I wouldn’t even be shocked if they went to the Super Bowl.

The Steelers won the moribund AFC North – in which the Ravens, Bengals and Browns were all complete disasters. Credit to head coach Mike Tomlin’s team for prevailing in a winner-take-all Sunday Night Football showdown against Baltimore, but – despite the outrageous entertainment – both teams looked awful and the Ravens should have won but missed a routine field goal as time expired.

Pittsburgh’s defense was mostly horrible on Sunday and it will have to be amazing in this particular matchup if the home team wants to have any chance. After all, Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers can’t be expected to score much. This is a rough spot for a 42-year-old quarterback going up against a defense that is ranked 1st overall, 2nd in scoring, 6th against the pass, 3rd in interceptions and 6th in sacks. Houston clobbered the Chargers 32-12 on Wild Card Weekend last year (albeit at home) and it should once again roll into the Divisional Round.
