I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. There’s never a shortage of excitement when it comes to the 2023 Stanley Cup playoffs, and I’m here to add to it. We’ve had 3 of the 4 series going on Friday night get tied up 1-1 before switching cities. That has created some close odds for these Game 3s, but it also provides even more value to be had. For this NHL mega parlay I’m targeting each of the first 2 matchups on Friday’s schedule in addition to 1 of the later Western Conference clashes. I’m also locked in on 3 different betting markets.

Let’s jump right into it, but along with this mega parlay be sure to also check out all of our NHL picks.

New York Islanders 3-way ML (+145) over Carolina Hurricanes

This is the one series that isn’t tied up 1-1, as Carolina was able to take the 2-0 lead with an overtime win on Wednesday night. However, don’t let that deter you from seeing the value in New York. Both games were close, 1-goal contests, and with a matchup between 2 elite defensive teams, home ice could make all the difference. Another aspect of this matchup is the Hurricanes continuing to lose offense pieces.

Entering this series with Andrei Svechnikov was already a big enough issue. Carolina ended the regular season looking very mediocre, going just 5-5-0 down the stretch. Now the ‘Canes will also be without Teuvo Teravainen. That puts nearly all the pressure on Sebastian Aho to find the back of the net. Scoring on the Islanders is already difficult enough with Ilya Sorokin in net. He ended the year as the second favorite to win the Vezina Trophy for the NHL’s best goalie. With him and the Islanders now back in the Big Apple, they have a great chance at inching their way back in this series.

Florida Panthers ML (+135) over Boston Bruins

Betting against the Bruins can always cause hesitation, especially in back-to-back games. They were the most significant favorites to win their first-round series, but the Panthers are proving to be no pushover. Game 1 was an excellent game to watch, as it was a very back-and-forth 3-1 Bruins win. The Panthers held their own in that opening game and also punched back even harder in Game 2. Wednesday night saw Florida pounce and largely dominate the Bruins.

Not only did they pull off the upset, but they also secured an impressive 6-3 win after scoring 4 unanswered goals in the 3rd period. Pulling that off in Boston is incredible, and now the series heads down to South Beach. That’s not to say the Bruins are bad on the road, but it still brings confidence to the Panthers. Boston didn’t lose many games this season, but 2 of them came by way of Florida. As you may have guessed, both of those games were in Florida. The Bruins may still end up winning this series, but the Panthers can continue making it interesting.

Dallas Stars vs Minnesota Wild Under 5.5 (-120)

I’m wrapping up this parlay with a total. After seeing the Stars’ offensive explosion of 7 goals in Game 2, you may do a double-take at this play — but this is probably my favorite of the 3 legs. This play came through for me with just 5 total goals scored, even after double overtime. That was with Minnesota’s Filip Gustavsson in net, and he proved to be one of the top goaltenders all season to earn that starting role.

Inexplicably, the Wild then started Marc-Andre Fleury in net for Game 2. That proved to be a mistake, and with this series now heading back north to Minnesota I fully expect them to go back to Gustavsson. Therefore we can rely more on the season stats for these teams. The Stars allowed the 3rd-fewest goals per game, while the Wild allowed the 6th fewest. As you can see from oddsmakers still listing this total as low as 5.5 goals and priced toward the under, they aren’t letting Game 2 sway their expectations for Friday night. Neither am I, so this is how I’m rounding out the mega parlay.
