College Basketball pick today: Florida Atlantic Owls +2 over Kansas State Wildcats (-110), 6:09 pm ET

FAU is the recommended side in this matchup as the Owls have a few key advantages that could prove to be the difference in a game between evenly matched teams. The first edge the Owls should be able to exploit is their offensive rebounding against Kansas State’s weak defensive rebounding.

The other edge FAU has on paper is the ability to defend in transition. Both teams rank in the top 70 in transition offense frequency according to Synergy, but FAU is much better at defending in transition. Per Synergy, the Owls grade in the 95th percentile in transition defense, while Kansas State ranks in just the 21st percentile. It’s possible Markquis Nowell will go superhuman again and lead the Wildcats to victory, but Florida Atlantic has more paths to the win in this matchup.

NHL pick today: Columbus Blue Jackets vs Montreal Canadiens – Over 6 goals (-120), 7:00 pm ET

The Blue Jackets and Canadiens have been the 2 worst teams in the Eastern Conference virtually all season and are last in their respective conferences. The Jackets allow the 2nd-most goals per game, and the Habs allow the 5th-most. Therefore, the only question is if they have the skating talent to take advantage. Columbus has superstars in Johnny Gaudreau and Patrik Laine, while Montreal recently scored 15 goals across 3 games against the Avalanche, Penguins and Panthers. Those are playoff-caliber teams, so backing the over tonight will be our best bet.

MLS pick today: Austin FC ML over Colorado Rapids (-175), 8:30 pm ET

Austin has had a bumpy start to the new season with 2 wins and 2 losses, including a road defeat by a pretty mediocre Houston Dynamo team last time out. However, Austin should be able to bounce back with a win over bottom club Colorado, which has taken only 1 point from 4 games so far. The Rapids have lost their last 2 MLS road games without scoring and it’s hard to see them taking anything away from this challenge.

College Basketball pick today: UConn Huskies -2 over Gonzaga Bulldogs (-110), 8:49 pm ET

This is an ideal matchup for UConn has they have a way to slow down Drew Timme, but they also have an advantage defensively all around the floor. They rank in the top 15 in adjusted defensive efficiency according to both KenPom and BartTorvik with a top 10 grade in opposing effective field goal percentage as well.

Gonzaga, on the other hand, ranks outside the top 70 in adjusted defensive efficiency and outside the top 230 in opposing effective field goal percentage. Ultimately, UConn is built to keep Gonzaga’s elite offense at bay while exposing its weaknesses on defense in the half court, therefore backing the Huskies to win and cover will be the play.
