College Basketball pick today: Iowa Hawkeyes -5.5 over Maryland Terrapins (-110), 4:30 pm ET

Iowa comes into the game in a good rhythm. The Hawkeyes are a top-10 offense nationally, and they play with pace. They play fast with quick possessions, but they also protect the ball. Their mistake-free brand of offense covers up for their subpar defense most nights.

Maryland is sort of the opposite. The Terps are a good defensive team but a low-scoring offense. They do not shoot the ball particularly well, and for the Terps to win they have to do it with their defense. That’s really hard to do with an offense as talented as Iowa’s. I think this is a case where good offense will beat good defense. For that reason, backing the Hawkeyes will be the play.

NFL pick today: Minnesota Vikings -3 over New York Giants (-105), 4:40 pm ET

It’s hard to find legit 3-star value in the NFL postseason, but when I analyze the first matchup and try to gauge what’s happened since then, I’m not sure I can say the Giants are 1.5 points better than they were on Christmas Eve and the Vikings are definitely not 1.5 points worse. If anything they get an upgrade if Garrett Bradbury and Blake Brandle return.
This is going to be Daniel Jones’ first career playoff game on the road in what’s historically been a difficult place to play. Since 2002 first time playoff QBs against non-first time QBs are 16-34 SU and 14-35-1 ATS (28.5%), including 0-3 SU & ATS last year (Kyler Murray vs Rams, Mac Jones vs Bills, Jalen Hurts vs Bucs). For that reason, backing the Vikings will be the play this afternoon.

NHL pick today: Winnipeg Jets -1.5 over Arizona Coyotes (-125), 7:07 pm ET

Winnipeg is the far better team and in great form right now. As long as the Jets don’t completely mail it in or have an outlier performance, they should be able to take care of the Coyotes.

Arizona is near the cellar of the NHL standings and enters today having lost 7 consecutive games. The Coyotes lost those games by a combined score of 31-14 for an average score of 4.43-2.00. That -2.43 goal differential per game does not look good for the Coyotes in this one to cover, let alone upset. The Jets are looking to solidify their position in the standings and create space if possible. For that reason, backing Winnipeg to win by at least 2 goals will be the play.

NBA pick today: Sacramento Kings -7 over San Antonio Spurs (-105), 7:10 pm ET

The Spurs can’t seem to be bothered to play any defense whatsoever. They just allowed 144 points against the defending champions Warriors in front of over 67,000 fans at the Alamodome. Over their last 4 games they’ve allowed 144, 135, 121 and 121 points, which makes them the worst defense in the NBA this season. With just 1 win in 8 games and a 0-9 ATS record over their last 9 against Pacific Division opponents, the Spurs fans don’t have much hope ahead of tonight’s game.

I’m looking for the Kings to assert their dominance from the start. They are a much more serious team, aiming to make the playoffs and sit in 4th place in the West. The Spurs are in the tank race, so every loss helps. I’ll take Sacramento with confidence.
