College basketball pick today: Memphis Tigers +5.5 over Houston Cougars (-110), 3:15 pm ET
Houston won both regular-season meetings, but both games were tight. The Cougars won by 8 in Houston, and they won by only 2 in Memphis in the regular season finale. Memphis has also won 13 of their last 14 games against anyone not Houston. Note also that Houston’s leading scorer, Marcus Sasser, went down with a groin injury on Saturday and will almost certainly miss today’s, with his status for next weekend in doubt as well. Houston will still likely win this game, but backing the Tigers to keep it close will be the play.

XFL pick today: St. Louis Battlehawks -4 over Arlington Renegades (-115), 4:00 pm ET
Oddsmakers have the Battlehawks as 4-point favorites and I’m laying the points with the home team. For starters, St. Louis has been getting some of the league’s best QB play from AJ McCarron. McCarron had 4 touchdowns last week and is one of the only signal-callers in the league with legit NFL experience.
The Battlehawks have played each of their first 3 games on the highway and because this is their first home game, backing them to win and cover will be the play.

NHL pick today: Carolina Hurricanes ML over New Jersey Devils, (-110), 7:08 pm ET
Prior to their games on Saturday, Carolina was 8-2-0 in its last 10 games, while Jersey was 7-2-1. The bottom line is that these are 2 of the best teams in the NHL. The Hurricanes won the first 2 matchups between these teams, while the Devils came away victorious in the most recent contest. It’s tempting to back a low-scoring game with such strong defensive squads, but with them both traveling in after a game the night before, we may see some tired skates. With that in mind, there is simply much more value on the ‘Canes — therefore backing them to win will be the play.

MLS pick today: Los Angeles FC ML over New England Revolution (-220), 9:30 pm ET
The best bet in Sunday’s sole MLS game could be a Los Angeles victory against the New England Revolution. LAFC won by 2 goals 11 times last season and won 2-0 the last time they met the New England Revolution in league action. Home-field advantage could make the difference in this matchup, so backing LAFC will be the play.
