The Betting Queen’s Super Bowl 58 pick: LA Chargers (+2500)

Odds available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing.

The Los Angeles Chargers are my Super Bowl longshot pick for multiple reasons. They just locked up Justin Herbert, one of the best quarterbacks in the league, to a seven-year contract and he is the perfect player to lead this team to a Super Bowl. When the Chargers are clicking on offense there isn’t a defense that can stop them, and alongside Herbert, Austin Ekeler is a big reason for that and a touchdown machine with 38 TDs across the past 2 seasons. Not to mention he had 107 catches out of the backfield last season as well, making him the perfect dual-threat.

On the outside, Herbert has big-body receiver Mike Williams, who is a deep threat and is a specialist in winning 50/50 balls. On the other side is Keenan Allen, who is one of if not the best route runners in the game. They also added rookie Quentin Johnson, who is another big-body threat. The bottom line is the Chargers have weapons all over the field and they can keep up with any offense in the league. They will give defensive coordinators nightmares week in and week out, and have a good chance of being the best offense in the league.

Another reason why I’m taking the Chargers to win the Super Bowl is because they have crucially improved on defense this off-season. They went out and got veteran linebacker Eric Hendrix and he will help out with the run defense that LA struggled so badly with last year. Also, getting Joey Bosa back from injury will give this team a major boost, as he is one of the best pass-rushers in the league when healthy. With Derwin James at safety, this Chargers team should make a huge leap this season and can be a top-10 defense in the league. If they can stay healthy all season long, this defense should cause problems for offenses and cause a lot of turnovers.

All things considered, I’m sprinkling my money on the Chargers at +2500 odds to win the Super Bowl as I really believe this team will make huge strides this season and win the Super Bowl. Take the Chargers to win the Super Bowl and have a great season.

The Betting Queen’s NFL MVP best bet: Justin Herbert (+1200)

Odds available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing.

Coinciding with my Super Bowl pick, I’m taking Justin Herbert to win this season’s NFL MVP award. Herbert is gifted and can make any throw at any time under pressure, and if he can be protected and stay healthy this season then he should be able to light it up. He is coming into his fourth season in the NFL, and let me tell you why this will be his best season yet. To start off with, he will be led by new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and he makes Herbert even more dangerous with his play designs and play calling. Also, after signing that seven-year contract I’m expecting Herbert to be extra motivated to prove why he is worth all that money and why he is the franchise quarterback of the Chargers.

Herbert has passed for over 4,000 yards in each of his first 3 seasons, with one 5,000-yard season, and this season looks to be his best stats-wise. With weapons like Ekeler out the backfield and big targets like Mike Williams and Quentin Johnston, any time the ball is snapped there is a chance he throws a Touchdown.

A big factor in Herbert winning MVP will be his offensive line staying healthy and protecting him. Herbert needs to have the time in the pocket to find his open targets and minimize getting hit as much as possible. He should be able to prove this season that he belongs in the discussion as the best quarterback in the league. I’m expecting Herbert to throw for over 5,000 yards this season and around 45 touchdowns. He has all the weapons on offense and the perfect offensive coordinator to help him win the MVP award. I’m sprinkling my money on Herbert at +900 odds.
