The Western Conference Finals kick off tonight with the Minnesota Timberwolves (-168) hosting the Dallas Mavericks. This NBA season truly signifies a changing of the guard as we see players like LeBron James, Steph Curry and Kevin Durant watching from home, while Anthony Edwards and Luka Doncic battle it out for a spot in the NBA Finals. The Timberwolves owned the regular-season series against Dallas with a 3-1 record, although we did not see any matchup take place after the Mavericks’ trade deadline additions of PJ Washington and Daniel Gafford. I view this series as more defensive-minded than the Eastern Conference and I’m very excited to see Anthony Edwards guard Kyrie Irving and Jaden McDaniels matchup with Luka Doncic. Let’s dive into my best NBA player prop bets for Mavericks vs Timberwolves!

Kyrie Irving (DAL) over 25.5 points+assists (-125)

Odds available at Bet365 at time of publishing.

This number is low due to the previous series where Irving was a non-factor scoring, but he didn’t need to be. The Mavericks had success with PJ Washington, Daniel Gafford and even Dereck Lively all in the paint. That’s going to be significantly harder in this series against Minnesota, who are the exact opposite of OKC. They have great rim protection (OKC did not), they have outstanding perimeter defenders in Jaden McDaniels, Anthony Edwards and spurts of Mike Conley.

For Kyrie, I expect his field-goal attempt volume to increase because he’s going to get 1:1 man defense and he can get to his spots more easily than against OKC. For the assists, these should come after he’s done his damage scoring. They will have to bring help and can’t drop coverage with Rudy Gobert. To me, this number is weak carrying over from the last series as he is averaging 26.5 P+A per game in the playoffs. In the series against the Clippers, Irving averaged 31.1 P+A and hit this in 5 of 6 games. I’m attacking this early as this line will likely be in the 27.5-28.5 range by the end of the Western Conference Finals. 1.5u
