Top College Football Storylines in Week 12

Shea Patterson Playing for Michigan

The College Football season has seen plenty of high dramatic moments already, but week 12 should bring plenty more interesting match-ups. Many of the remaining undefeated teams will look to stay perfect and keep their Playoff dreams alive. The Big Ten and SEC should have some of the most intriguing storylines and games to watch in week 12 of the college football season. Let’s dive into the top College Football Storylines in week 12.

Can Alabama rebound?

The Crimson Tide, couldn’t come out with the last laugh in week 11 against their rival LSU, as the Tigers were able to get a huge win on the road in Tuscaloosa. The Tide now find themseleves outside the top four in the CFP rankings, and their hopes for the playoffs could be all but over. The only thing they can do now is win out. A good start for that will be by going on the road to Starkville here in week 12 and getting some style points in a victory over Mississippi State. The Offense hasn’t been the problem for Alabama, but can the defensive unit pull it together for the Crimson Tide.

Paul Bunyan Trophy is on the Line

It’s that time again, yes one of the weirdest rivalry trophies there is, will be on the line as the Spartans and Wolverines will clash in Ann Arbor. A rivalry that tends to turn pretty bitter, as Michigan will look for their second consecutive win over MSU, and third in the last four years. It won’t be easy as Michigan State has won four of the last five meetings played at the Big House. The Spartans will be looking to leave Ann Arbor with the Paul Bunyan Trophy for the third time in their last three visits. MSU has been plain ugly for much of the season and four straight losses makes it even worse for the Spartans. Blowing a big lead against Illinois in week 11 hurts, but finding a way to sneak out a win over the Wolverines would make the hearts feel a little better in East Lansing. Look for the Spartans to make things interesting on Saturday.

Navy’s Biggest Game of the Year

The Midshipmen have found a way to just one loss so far this season. They will have a test ahead as they pay a visit to South Bend for a clash with the 16th-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Navy finds themseleves in the top 25 rankings behind a little respect from the selection committee. The Irish are a heavy favorite, but the Midshipmen shouldn’t be scared of the moment, as they have some tough and physical guys on both sides of the ball. Malcolm Perry’s phenomenal playmaking should make this game one of the must-see games of week 12.

Bulldogs and Tigers Set for Clash

If this was the end of the season, then the fourth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs would find themseleves in the College Football Playoff. Those chances will be tested here in week 12 as the Bulldogs make a visit to Auburn for a clash with 12th-ranked Tigers. The Dogs will need a strong performance out of quarterback Jake Fromm, but he’s been a little inconsistent for much of the season. Auburn’s freshman QB Bo Nix will have to avoid the turnovers that plagued him against LSU and Florida if the Tigers want to cause more chaos for the Selection Committee.

Will the Boat continue to row for the Gophers?

The Gophers will look to keep their outstanding season going, but they will need to stay focused as they have what could be the hardest road game you could ask for in week 12. Minnesota was able to upset unbeaten Penn State in week 11, but can the Gophers avoid the same fate in their trip to Kinnick Stadium. Tanner Morgan has really taken off for the Gophers, but Iowa has one of the nation’s best defenses, which could make things tough quickly. It’s going to be a heck of an environment, and this game bodes well for one of the most interesting games of week 12 and is a lock for a best bet of the week.

Why not Baylor?

The Baylor Bears have been one of the biggest shockers of the season. Much like Minnesota, the Bears enter week 12 with an unblemished record. Week 12 also brings a prime-time showdown for the ages in the Big 12 Conference. As the 13th-ranked Baylor Bears play host to the 10th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners, in Waco, Texas. The Sooners’ defense has become all but pointless, as they have completely disappeared. They have given up 903 yards and 89 points in their last two games combined. Jalen Hurts could be the key for Oklahoma as the Sooners offense is almost video game-like. The Bears defense hasn’t been anything to brag about either, which is why this game should be a back and forth shootout under the lights.
