Carabao soccer pick today: Nottingham Forest to score first vs Manchester United (+260), 3:00 pm ET

The Red Devils have been transformed in the last few months and while a draw at Crystal Palace and loss to Arsenal has probably killed off their chances of winning the EPL, they look well placed in the 3 cup competitions they are contesting. The security that 3-goal cushion offers United at Old Trafford could give Forest the chance to make an early mark.

The underdogs were weak on the road after winning promotion to the EPL this season, but have been stronger in away games of late. A 3-0 EPL loss at United was the only time in the last 5 road games in which they didn’t score and they are sure to be positive in the early minutes this afternoon as they have nothing to lose. For that reason, backing Forest to score first will be the play.

College Basketball pick today: Providence Friars +3.5 over Xavier Musketeers (-102), 6:30 pm ET

Unfortunately for the Musketeers, the big news heading into this Big East battle is that Zach Freemantle will not only miss this game, but at least a month with a left foot injury.

With or without Freemantle, the Friars have an edge defensively against the Musketeers. They have the 4th-best defensive efficiency in the Big East, defend the 3-point line well, and protect the rim efficiently – which will come in handy against Xavier’s talented guards. Expect a motivated effort from the Friars, who can gain a valuable game on the Musketeers in the tight Big East standings with at least a road cover at the Cintas Center.

NHL pick today: Boston Bruins ML over Toronto Maple Leafs (-130), 7:37 pm ET

As it has probably been well established over the weekend, the Maple Leafs will be without star forward Auston Matthews, who will miss three weeks with a knee sprain. This is a massive blow to the Maple Leafs, as before his injury, Matthews was 3rd in points and 2nd in goals on the team. This also affects the Maple Leafs in this game, as they will be going up against arguably the best defensive team since the start of the year.

The Bruins do a great job of keeping the scoring chances to a minimum, ranking 2nd in expected goals against, which helps keep the puck out of the net, where they are the top team in goals allowed per game with a mark of 1.93. For that reason, look for the Bruins to shut down the Maple Leafs without their top forward and place your bet on the Bruins money line.

NBA pick today: Sacramento Kings -8 over San Antonio Spurs (-106), 8:10 pm ET

January has been kind to the Sacramento Kings as they wrapped up the month with the 3rd best Net Rating at +6.2, behind only the Denver Nuggets and OKC Thunder. Tonight’s game against the Spurs is a solid opportunity to tip-off February on a high note, following the OT win at Minnesota a couple of nights ago. The Kings won both meetings earlier this season by 18 and 13 points, so for that reason, backing the Kings to dominate the Spurs a third time this season looks to be the best play.
