WNBA Finals Sunday: Phoenix, Chicago meet again for rematch of 2014 Finals

WNBA Finals are finally here! And no one, I repeat no one, predicted 5-6 seeds would meet up in the Finals. However, both the Mercury and Sky deserve to be there; they are the best two teams in the playoffs and currently playing their best basketball. Let’s check out our best bets for today’s game!

Chicago Sky money line (+138)

I will roll the dice on this price, as I am interested to see the backcourt matchups on who from Phoenix can contain Sky point guard Courtney Vandersloot’s play-making ability, run Allie Quigley off the three-point line, and stop Kahleah Copper from getting to the rim. Las Vegas head coach Bill Laimbeer stated the playoffs are for the guards–and he was right…to a certain extent. Las Vegas won semifinal Games 1 and 4 when the Aces’ guard play combined for 68 and 59 points. With the recent injuries to Mercury guards Kia Nurse and Sophie Cunningham, the depth of Phoenix’s bench will always be in question. Chicago shocked Connecticut in Game 1 of the semifinals and I expect it to do the same today in Phoenix.

Chicago Sky over 81.5 points (-114)

In Chicago’s six playoff games, the Sky have hit this number four times. Chicago is averaging 84 points per game in the playoffs, while Phoenix leads this category in the playoffs at 89.3. Look for both teams to take quick shots out in transition with an increased pace of play for Chicago this series on the defensive end, compared to the semifinals against Connecticut.
