Cincinnati took advantage of four Tampa Bay turnovers in its season-opening 33-27 home victory. The Bengals scored 24 of their 33 points off turnovers to snap a four-game ATS slide in Week 1 since 2022. Cincinnati heads to the Lone Star State to face a Houston squad that uncharacteristically allowed 409 yards in a 36-31 home defeat to Buffalo.
From an EPA standpoint, Texans QB CJ Stroud produced a higher number (3.0) than Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow (-2.1) in Week 1. Stroud completed passes to 11 different players and didn’t throw an interception, which was a huge improvement from his four-INT performance in the playoff loss at New England.
Houston’s defense allowed the fewest yards per game last season (277.2), including 128.2 yards to wide receivers. Buffalo’s WR corps put up 185 yards against Houston in the opener, while Cincinnati’s WRs compiled 101 yards in its win over Tampa Bay.
These teams haven’t faced each other since 2023, when the Texans outlasted the Bengals 30-23. Stroud and Burrow each threw for over 347 yards, but Houston grabbed the road win as 5.5-point underdogs. The Texans posted a 5-4 ATS mark as a home favorite last season, but two of those non-covers came as double-digit chalk.
Bengals vs Texans prediction: Texans -2.5 (-115) available at time of publishing. Playable to -3 (-110).
