The Philadelphia Flyers strung together a couple of wins through mid-October, which made people think last year’s surprising playoff team was about to turn it around, but they’ve since lost four of their last five games. They almost started a furious comeback Tuesday night against the Minnesota Wild but fell just short, slipping further in the Metropolitan Division standings.
The New York Rangers ended a four-game losing skid Tuesday night with a win over the St. Louis Blues, easing fears that their good fortune after losing starting goaltender Igor Shesterkin was running out. It still won’t be an easy road, and they need to find someone to give Dylan Garand some rest at times, but the new starting goaltender has been performing well enough to keep New York in a playoff spot in the Metro.
You can find it hard to find many reasons to bet on either of these teams with their recent form, but the Rangers are at home playing a Flyers team that has looked bad more often than the Rangers. Philadelphia players tried to say after the Wild loss that they felt things were turning around, but I won’t believe it until I see it.
Flyers vs Rangers prediction: Rangers ML (-160) available at the time of publishing. Playable to this number.
