The Alex Ovechkin farewell tour continues on home ice at Capital One Arena, where the Washington Capitals recently took down the Montreal Canadiens in 5-4 fashion. As for Ovi, his trend of NOT shooting the puck this season continued; he didn’t record a single shot on goal, but notched an assist in the victory.
As for the other side of our best Devils vs Capitals prediction, Jack Hughes and the New Jersey Devils grabbed a 5-4 victory on the Frozen Frenzy slate after being taken to overtime by the Detroit Red Wings followed by a home blowout win (7-1) against the New York Rangers. That puts them on the second leg of a back-to-back, which is tough sledding for a team that doesn’t exactly have elite goaltending. Thankfully for their sake, they recently overtook the defending Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes in terms of expected goal percentage (now over 60%)! That’s a big boost for fans wanting to call for a New Jersey win with their Devils vs Capitals predictions.
That said, we’d prefer to just root for goals -- especially after those aforementioned and recent nine-goal finishes. Let’s see this one hit with 3-3 in the second period to make it sweat-free.
