Devils vs Hurricanes Pickswise Expert Predictions
The New Jersey Devils and Carolina Hurricanes meet in the regular season opener for both of these Metropolitan Division teams at Lenovo Center in Raleigh. For Jersey, it returns to the place its postseason ended, as the Devils lost in five games in the playoffs against the Hurricanes, losing Game 5 by a 5-4 score in overtime on April 29. During the regular season, the home team won all four meetings, with Carolina outscoring New Jersey 9-4 in the two meetings at Lenovo Center.
The Hurricanes made a giant splash in the free-agent market in the offseason, bringing in Nikolaj Ehlers from the Winnipeg Jets. He joins an already formidable group of forwards who seem to fit head coach Rod Brind’Amour’s offense to a tee. The biggest question for Carolina is in net, as Frederik Andersen has been oft-injured in his career. By all accounts, he heads into the new season healthy, but that propensity for ailments is always in the back of everybody’s mind. The Canes kick off the season at home for two games, but then they’ll head out on a long road trip due to the North Carolina State Fair, which is in close proximity to the arena. Look for the Canes to get off on the right foot at home behind its powerful offense.
