For Jersey, it returns to the place its postseason ended, as the Devils lost in five games in the playoffs against the Hurricanes, losing Game 5 by a 5-4 score in overtime on April 29. During the regular season, the home team won all four meetings, with Carolina outscoring New Jersey 9-4 in the two meetings at Lenovo Center.

The Hurricanes made a giant splash in the free-agent market in the offseason, bringing in Nikolaj Ehlers from the Winnipeg Jets. He joins an already formidable group of forwards who seem to fit head coach Rod Brind’Amour’s offense to a tee.
