The Washington Capitals head to TD Garden to tangle with the Boston Bruins in a matinee game on Saturday. The Capitals traded veteran defenseman John Carlson prior to the deadline on Friday, and the replacement, Timothy Liljegren, isn’t likely to be available on such short notice. So, the Caps figure to be a little shorthanded. They also acquired veteran forward David Kampf, who will replace the departed Nic Dowd. Washington has lot the past two games, and it suffered a setback in the first meeting with Boston back on home ice in the regular-season opener Oct. 8, falling 3-2.

The Bruins also made some moves prior to the deadline, although nothing major. Lukas Reichel was acquired for a pick, while they also made a minor trade with the Flyers for some organizational depth. Boston is secure with the personnel which has overproduced this season. Boston was dropped 6-3 in Nashville, but it is 14-3-2 across the past 19 games, grabbing 30 out of a possible 38 points since Dec. 31.
