Brighton would have faced a tough trip to Leeds regardless, but the scheduling of the fixtures has made it an even trickier tie for the Seagulls.
Graham Potter’s side was in action in midweek, while Leeds haven’t played since their FA Cup tie against Crawley last weekend.
Perhaps Brighton could have taken the midweek fixture in their stride, but the fact it was an away day against Manchester City sandwiched between an FA Cup tie at Newport and their trip to Elland Road, makes it difficult to believe that those run of road trips won’t leave their mark on a small Seagulls squad.
Potter doesn’t have the luxury of a deep roster full of talent, so the Brighton boss is faced with rotating and reducing the quality of his side, or starting players perhaps short of their physical best.
A clash against Leeds isn’t what the doctor ordered for potentially tired legs either. Marcelo Bielsa’s high-tempo style is tough to deal with at the best of times and the Whites boss took the opportunity to freshen up his side for the cup game at Crawley. At even-money Leeds look a nice price given the advantages they seem to have been handed.
