MLS Schedule 2020 – Return to season schedule
The MLS schedule and MLS Cup as we know it, much like all other sport was curtailed by the Covid-19 pandemic. As such, the MLS 2020 schedule was scrapped, postponed, and resumed in the form of the ‘MLS is Back Tournament’ held in a bubble at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida
The Portland Timbers beat Orlando City 2-1 in the final of the MLS is back tournament on August 12th.
Major League Soccer announced the first phase of its return to the regular season, and will do so, as it did during the MLS is Back Tournament, with stringent health and safety protocols in place including the regular testing of players, coaches, and staff for COVID-19.
The revised 2020 MLS schedule will see each team play an additional 18 matches, with the exception of FC Dallas and Nashville SC who will play an extra three games, to make up for those lost when withdrawing from the MLS is Back Tournament.
The first phase will see the majority of teams playing six matches against regional opponents through Sept. 14. However, due to the travel restrictions between the US and Canada, Major League Soccer is having to working with the league’s three Canadian clubs to finalise their plans to continue the regular season.
