Igor Tudor’s miserable reign as Tottenham head coach was brought to an end over the international break, and given Spurs start the weekend just 1 point above the Premier League relegation zone, they cannot afford for Roberto De Zerbi to follow in his predecessor’s footsteps.  The combined failures of Thomas Frank and Tudor have left De Zerbi with a mammoth job to do, but the good news is that while there are just 7 games left, the bar is low – Tudor failed to win any of his 5 Premier League games in the Tottenham dugout. A first league win of 2026 is the aim in the Italian’s first game at Sunderland on Sunday, but the Lilywhites’ league winless run now stands at 13 games and a team short of confidence are unlikely to earn a positive result on Wearside.

De Zerbi isn’t exactly known for making a fast start, with it taking him 6 games to earn a win at Brighton during his last stint in England, but we should at least see an entertaining clash at the Stadium of Light. Spurs fans need De Zerbi’s attacking ideas to work instantly and they could, but that does not solve the issues at the other end. The Lilywhites conceded 20 goals in 7 games under Tudor, and it is a big ask for them to keep Sunderland quiet.
