Portland Win
Best Odds

Orlando City FC and the Portland Timbers will be battling for the title of the first–and presumably last–MLS is Back Tournament when they square off on Tuesday night. An automatic berth in the 2021 CONCACAF Champions League is also on the line, so there is plenty at stake in this one. Even though Orlando City FC is not playing at its own stadium, home-field advantage in its own city has clearly suited the Lions quite well. Their run at this event has been improbable to say the least, as they finished second-to-last in the Eastern Conference last year and were 0-1-1 this season prior to arriving in the bubble. Portland’s presence in the final is far less surprising. The Timbers were not quite among the favorites, but they are not far removed from a MLS Cup runner-up performance (2018) and another playoff appearance in 2019. They are on a seven-match unbeaten streak since losing their 2020 opener and they won their quarterfinal and semifinal contests by a combined 5-2 margin over NYCFC and Philadelphia. The Timbers have an answer to Orlando’s Nani in the form of midfielder Sebastian Blanco, who delivered assists in each his team’s first five MLS is Back matches and then scored what proved to be the winning goal against Philadelphia in the semis. They are the MVP favorites for this event. This is sort of experience vs. youth in a way, and in a championship setting experience often has the upper hand. That would belong to the Timbers. Getting Portland at +165 is value too good to pass up.

MLS Schedule 2020

The MLS schedule and MLS Cup as we know it, much like all other sport was curtailed by the Covid-19 pandemic. As such, the MLS 2020 schedule was scrapped, postponed, and set to resume in the form of the ‘MLS is Back Tournament’ set to be held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida

54 games, 26 teams, 6 groups, 1 champion, the MLS is Back Tournament is set to bring US soccer back with a bang from July 8th.

MLS Schedule 2020 – Key MLS is Back Tournament dates

  • July 8: Group Stage Begins
  • July 25-28: Knockout Stage – Round of 16 begins
  • July 30-August 1: Quarterfinals
  • August 5-6: Semifinals
  • August 11: Final

Upon completion of the MLS is Back Tournament, Major League Soccer plans to continue its regular season with a revised schedule, followed by the MLS Cup Playoffs and the 25th MLS Cup.

The points in which MLS teams accrue during the MLS is Back Tournament will count towards the regular season once resumed, and the winner will be granted a place in the 2021 Concacaf Champions League in lieu of the conference leader that did not win the Supporters’ Shield.

The MLS schedule will be developed at a later date and will be updated on this page once released.
