BYU vs Miami Pickswise Expert Predictions

Point Spread Pick
BYU -9.5(-110)

No.9 BYU and Miami will square off on Thursday night in Kissimmee Florida, in the opening round of the ESPN Events invitational. The Cougars enter at 4-1 after back-to-back games against ranked opponents. BYU narrowly lost to UConn by two but responded with a dominant 28-point win over No. 23 Wisconsin. Miami heads into this game 5-1 with a high-powered offense, but their only loss was against then-No. 10 Florida, where they shot 33.8% from the field and lost by 14.

BYU is averaging 87.2 points per game while holding their opponents to just 68.6 points. Miami is averaging 92.2 points per game while holding opponents to 64.3 points per game. The Hurricanes have four players averaging double digits, and BYU will have to find ways to stop their top scorer, Malik Reneau, who’s averaging 21.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. BYU counters with three double-digit scorers of their own, including Richie Saunders with 20.8 points per game and A.J. Dybantsa, who’s averaging 19.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. This should be an exciting matchup, but Miami’s performance against Florida raises concerns. The Hurricanes struggled to generate offense in that matchup and got outrebounded 47-41. BYU has proven it can compete with some of the best teams in college basketball, and with their physicality, scoring balance, and resume, BYU has the edge in this matchup. Look for Dybantsa and Saunders to control the boards and create matchup problems throughout the night, making BYU my best bet of the day.
