Central Michigan vs Marquette Pickswise Expert Predictions

Point Spread Pick
Marquette -23.0(-110)

The Marquette Golden Eagles host the Central Michigan Chippewas in a Saturday afternoon college basketball contest. The Golden Eagles enter at 3-3, no doubt starting the year slower than they would have liked. They have losses to Maryland, Dayton and Indiana thus far. The Chippewas come in at 2-3, but they have yet to punch up in weight class — so this game will be a tall order for them. This Central Michigan team is also picked to finish near the bottom of the MAC. I think Marquette should be able to win this game comfortably; I will take it to cover -23.

Even at 3-3, the Golden Eagles measure up well by the metrics. They play at a fast tempo, among the fastest teams in the nation. They also play excellent defense, as we have come to expect from Smart’s squads. They lost their top 3 leading scorers from last season, but they still have lots of team continuity — and that counts for a lot in this sort of matchup. As for the Chipps, KenPom still recognizes them as a team outside the top 300. They have a slow, plodding offense and their defense is not much better. It would be very surprising if the Chipps can stay close in this one. Give me Marquette at home.

Central Michigan vs Marquette prediction: Marquette -23 (-110) available at time of publication. Playable at that number.
