The Big Ten conference schedule is already underway, as the enormous 18-team behemoth takes a while to play through. Both Minnesota and Purdue are off to a 1-0 start in conference play, although expectations are quite a bit different for these teams. Purdue is in the mix as a potential Final Four team, while Minnesota is rebooting the program under a new coach. The spread on this game is right around 20 points though, and that is hard to play, even if Purdue is at home and coming off an embarrassing loss. Instead, I think the best play is the game total in this one.

Minnesota is rebuilding the program under new coach and alum Niko Medved. He has brought in some talent and they have some guys that can score, but this team still feels like a year away. The Gophers just nabbed a win over Indiana, and they have been competitive in every game this season. Purdue is a different animal, but I think the Gophers can get some points on the board. Purdue, for their part, ranks as the top team in the country in terms of offensive efficiency, as per KenPom. The problem in this matchup is that both teams play at a very slow tempo, with both teams ranking outside the top 300 in pace. Typically, that means a very low-scoring game. However, I think we have enough offensive efficiency here to overcome it. Purdue, after all, is usually over 80 points per game despite the slow pace of place. I think this one gets just beyond the 80-60 game it would need to be in order to challenge the over on Wednesday.
