Coming off a massive win in Tuscaloosa, the Georgia Bulldogs will return to Athens to play host to the other team from Alabama, the Auburn Tigers. The Bulldogs are a perfect 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS, with the lone non-cover coming at home against Vandy when they were laying 25.5 points – they won that game by 24. Meanwhile, Auburn is 3-2 SU and 1-4 ATS and has failed to surpass 17 points in either of their games away from home.
This isn’t the best spot for Georgia, especially having to play a team coming off a bye, but the good news for the ‘Dawgs is they will get their rest next week – so I’m not going to overthink this. Georgia is in a completely different class than Auburn at seemingly every level. That includes quarterback, where the Bulldogs have a huge edge. PFF grades Gunner Stockton as the best passer in the conference, which makes sense given only two picks and two turnover-worthy plays. Auburn’s Byrum Brown is more of a runner than a polished passer, while he carries the second-most interceptions in the conference (7) – all of which came against power-conference opponents. Mistakes have been a general theme of Brown when stepping up in class, even dating back to his USF days, and now he’s walking into a venue that might be more hostile than Knoxville was in Week 5.
There are probably better spots to bet in Week 7, but if you have to bet this one, I could only look to Georgia. The ‘Dawgs are second nationally in scoring (46.2 PPG), and they’re among the nation’s best in PPA per play, points per scoring opportunity, yards per play and third-down conversion rate. Auburn hasn’t been able to figure it out, and they’re constantly behind the sticks, which is not ideal when playing in Athens.
