Arkansas vs Tennessee Pickswise Expert Predictions
We head to Knoxville on Saturday for an SEC matchup between the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Tennessee Volunteers. The big story leading up to this game is that Arkansas relieved its head coach of his duties, replacing him with the odd and controversial Bobby Petrino. So far, reports out of Fayetteville have been quite positive though, and the fact that not a single Arkansas player hit the transfer portal is telling. That leaves us in a weird place when handicapping this game, because it is totally possible that the Razorbacks hang around in this game and give the Vols a battle, and it is also possible that the Vols win by multiple scores. I do, however, think the most likely outcome is a lot of points, so I am playing the ridiculously high game total over 68.5.
We know the Vols are going to score, and score fast. They run when the numbers are favorable, and they sling the ball all over the field, and they do all of it with tempo. They have played two overtime games already in the SEC, but in regulation alone, they have hung 38 against Georgia and 34 against Miss St, both of whom have good defensive units. I think we will see the Vols post 40+ this week against Arkansas. The wildcard here is whether the Hogs can keep pace. I think the coaching change gives them a chance to succeed offensively. While they struggled last week against Notre Dame, they hung 500 yards of offense on Memphis and Ole Miss in the previous two weeks. We could be in for a classic up-tempo Tennessee shootout in this game, and any time the game total climbs to these kinds of heights, it is usually a good idea to go ahead and take the over.
Arkansas vs Tennessee Prediction: Over 68.5 (-110) available at the time of publishing. Playable at that number.
