Army vs Navy Pickswise Expert Predictions

Game Totals Pick
Over 38.0(-110)

Navy’s offense alone can get us into striking distance, if the chips fall that way. The Midshipmen after all as mentioned, score 32 points per game. Navy also bleeds points. Though they marked off wins at a clip while doing so, they gave up 23 points to Tulsa, 31 to Temple, 24 to UAB, and in a rivalry game against Air Force, the Midshipmen gave up 31. The Force’s modus operandi is like that of Army’s, they love to run the football. This is also a Navy football team that we have seen get exposed in particular against the run. All of this lends to Army getting multiple opportunities to get on the scoreboard.

Typically, Army-Navy games are lower scoring and if we rewind a few years back, the Under was always the trendy play as it was hitting for over a decade. That’s changed recently, the Over has cashed in two of the last three meetings but the thing that is different here is Navy’s offense which has become prolific. The problem is that on the back-end, Navy we know will give up points. Let’s say hypothetically that the Midshipmen rout the Black Knights here, we are not saying that they will, but hypothetically speaking…Navy will go off for thirty-plus points at minimum and they can clear this number on their own. But even if the Midshipmen stay in the thirties, they would need to keep Army off the board entirely to guarantee an under. With a defense like Navy’s and a spirited outfit like the Black Knights who will have a few tricks up their sleeves, that seems unlikely. Grab the Over.

Money Line Pick
Army Win(+205)

Yes, the Midshipmen are ranked. Yes, the Midshipmen are 9-2 and they can win their tenth game this season. Yes, Army is 6-5 and lost to Tarleton State, a FCS team earlier this year. But this rivalry throws all of that out the window. Regardless of where either team goes from here, we can be rest assured of one thing: this is the Super Bowl for both the Black Knights and Midshipmen. What does that mean? You don’t want to be laying points in this one, period.

But we’ll go further. This is the type of game where Army can do more than just cover, they can win. Navy’s offense? Indeed, it is like a video game come to life. Blake Horvath and company lead the nation in rushing yardage and they bode a top-25 offense in scoring, averaging 32.5 points per game. The problem? Navy’s defense. The Mids give up nearly 400 yards of total offense per game (112th overall in the FBS) and they surrender 27 points per contest. By those numbers alone, Army will be in position to cover if Navy’s usuals play out. But, if Army is in position to cover here, that means they will also be in a position to win. Given the volatility of America’s Game, an underdog that is live is an underdog that can win. Black Knights outright with the upset.
