Baylor Bears
Point Spread Pick
Baylor -21.0(-110)

After 20 seasons as the head coach of the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Mike Gundy has been let go from his duties on the sideline. This will be the first time since the year 2000 that Oklahoma State will not see Gundy on their sideline. The interim head coach for the Cowboys will be offensive coordinator Doug Meacham. Oklahoma State is coming off a 19-12 loss to Tulsa. This was the first time Tulsa was able to beat Oklahoma State in 27 years. The Cowboys couldn’t stop the run in this game, allowing former Oklahoma State running back Dominic Richardson to run for 146 yards on 31 attempts. Quarterback Zane Flores threw for 214 yards in his second career start. Baylor is also coming off a loss last week. They fell short 27-24 to defending Big 12 champions Arizona State. Quarterback Sawyer Robertson threw for 250 yards and 3 touchdowns, but the Baylor Bears ended up losing on a game winning 43-yard field goal.

The first initial thought is that this is a lot of points for a road team to be favored by in a conference game, but unfortunately Oklahoma State is not a team that you want to back right now. There are a lot of issues that were exposed last week against Tulsa that Oklahoma State has, and the sudden release of their longtime head coach is not going to provide them with any immediate answers. They allowed Tulsa to gain 424 total yards of offense and control the clock with a time of possession of 34:45. Baylor’s offense will prove to be a much bigger threat, ranking 7th in the FBS with 338.5 passing yards per game. Oklahoma State’s quarterback, Zane Flores showed his inexperience against Tulsa. He looked uncomfortable all game against a team from the American Conference. This will be Flores’ second game against a team from a Power Four school. His first game was three weeks ago against Oregon, where he was 7 for 19 for 67 yards and two interceptions. Even with Gundy gone, struggles for Oklahoma State look like they will continue.
