Boston College Eagles vs Pittsburgh Panthers Prediction, Odds and Picks for Saturday, 10/04/25
Boston College vs Pittsburgh Pickswise Expert Predictions
After blowing a 17-point lead last week, the Pittsburgh Panthers will welcome in the Boston College Eagles in a matchup between two teams looking for their first ACC conference victory. As slight underdogs at home last week, Pittsburgh opened their game against Louisville with a 17-0 advantage. Despite the early lead, Pittsburgh was sloppy in this game with five total turnovers. The turnover that may have hurt the Panthers the most was an interception thrown by Eli Holstein in the middle of a tie game in the fourth quarter. Holstein finished this game on the bench following this interception. Boston College is also coming into this game cold, losing their last three games. Their last loss was a 28-24 defeat against California. The Eagles had the lead late, but they saw their opponent go in front with a 51 yard touchdown pass with a 1:30 remaining on the clock. Boston College marched down the field trying to regain the lead, but this game ended with an interception in the endzone near the end of regulation.
These teams are very similar. They are both teams that have strong passing games, but have started slow due to inconsistencies and turnovers. I assume Holstein will be back under center Saturday, but he will need to focus on avoiding turnovers. Holstein has thrown five interceptions in his first four starts. He will be opposed by sophomore quarterback Dylan Lonergan. Lonergan has produced 1188 yards, 9 touchdowns and 3 interceptions in his first four starts. Lonergan showed his inexperience last Saturday against California, throwing two interceptions and no touchdowns. With both passing games looking to regain confidence, I’m looking for which team will be able to better lean on their rushing game. It looks like Pittsburgh’s senior running back Desmond Reid will be back in the lineup after missing last week with an injury. Reid is arguably the Panthers best offensive talent, and his presence was missed last week. Boston College has been a solid rushing team this season, averaging 3.7 yards per carry. They were excellent last week, running for 185 yards and 3 touchdowns. I don’t expect Boston College to have the same success this week on the ground. Pittsburgh’s defensive strength is their big guys up front. Pittsburgh is ranked as the 7th best team in the nation against the run, only allowing 76 yards per game. Pittsburgh should have more opportunities to possess the football behind their rushing game and playing on their home field.
Pittsburgh -6.5 is available at the time of publishing. Playable at that number.
