Idaho State vs UNLV Pickswise Expert Predictions
The UNLV Rebels are coming off the first 11-win season for the program since 1984, looking to start the season strong with a fresh coaching staff and fresh slate of talented transfer players against FCS side Idaho State. Former Mississippi State and Florida coach Dan Mullen comes in with a new staff of assistants, and he’ll likely be utilizing this matchup as essentially a preseason game to tune things up. This is an entirely fresh roster, with 16 former blue-chip recruits meshing together for the first time ever on Saturday. There are plenty of reasons to believe it could take some time for this Rebels squad to become accustomed to one another, and of course, the new offensive/defensive schemes Mullen’s crew is implementing.
It would be a huge surprise if UNLV didn’t win this game comfortably, but I don’t expect them to necessarily light up the scoreboard, especially after it was reported Mullen will be utilizing both transfer quarterbacks — Anthony Colandrea and Alex Orji — in his offense this week. Now, if following trends is your thing, Idaho State is 5-2 on the Under in its last 7 games against FBS opponents. The talent gap is massive, and I don’t expect the Bengals’ offense to find the end zone often. With all things considered, I’ve got the Under in this matchup.
