Point Spread Pick
Akron -5.5(-115)

As MACtion creeps further into the early part of the week, we have a couple of Tuesday games, including the Kent State Golden Flashes vs the Akron Zips. The Zips are riding a modest 2-game winning streak after upending Buffalo and lowly UMass in their last two contests. Kent State dropped last week’s MACtion contest to Ball State, but they have actually won 2 of their last 4 games to avoid repeating as the worst team in the country this season. We have cold temperatures and maybe a little snow, which only makes an early-week MACtion tilt that much sillier, but I am going to go with the Zips to cover -5.5 at home on Tuesday.

Kent State ranks 130th in the country in total offense. They are only ahead of fellow MAC squads NIU, Ball State, UMass, and, oddly, Wisconsin. They have been dealing with injuries on the offensive line lately that have made things even worse for an already-bad offense, and adding in cold temps and potential weather won’t help them. The defense has been bad too, grading out at 124 (of 134) in total yards allowed. The Golden Flashes are also 0-5 on the road, and I don’t see why that would change here. Honestly, it is surprising that the Golden Flashes have won as many as they have this season, but I think that’s done now. I don’t think Akron is anything special, but this is just about fading Kent State. Give me Akron at home -5.5.

Kent State vs Akron prediction: Akron -5.5 (-110) available at time of publishing. Playable at that number.
