Kent State Golden Flashes
Point Spread Pick
Texas Tech -48.0(-110)

We’ve got a big spread on our hands as the Kent State Golden Flashes head to west Texas to face the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Why the big number? That is because Texas Tech may have their best team in years, while the Golden Flashes might be the worst team in FCS. Kent State needed a miracle kick return to down Merrimack in the opener, 21-17. Go ahead and bank on that being the last game Kent State wins this season, although that is one more than they won last season. Meanwhile, the Red Raiders blasted Arkansas Pine Bluff, 67-7, and everything looked great for the Raiders. The big story here is the injury status of Tech QB Behren Morton, who left with a leg injury. He escaped series problems, but he is highly questionable for Saturday. A lot of early money is on the Kent State side of the spread, probably betting on Morton missing the game, but even without Morton, the Red Raiders should be able to win this game by 50. Give me Texas Tech -48.

Texas Tech is really good. They brought back a lot of experience, but they also hit the portal with a massive stack of cash, returning with one of the top transfer classes in the nation. That is especially important on the offensive line, which was their undoing last season. If Morton plays, the Red Raiders can score as many points as they want to. If he sits, the backup is no slouch either, and they should still score plenty. On the other side, the Golden Flashes are coming off a winless season, they might actually be worse this year, and they fired their coach in April. I have zero confidence that they can score against a good opponent, and they certainly cannot consistently stop Tech. This bet comes down to whether Morton plays, and whether Tech wants to run it up. And I think they will.

Kent State vs Texas Tech Prediction: Texas Tech -48 (-110) available at the time of publishing. Playable at that number.
