UTEP Miners vs Sam Houston State Bearkats Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 10/15/25

We have college football on a Wednesday, featuring the UTEP Miners and the Sam Houston State Bearkats, as Conference USA does everything it can to get us to pay attention to it. This is not good college football, mind you, as these teams are two of the worst teams in the country at a combined 1-11, but it is football on a Wednesday, so you and I are both here doing what we do. So how should be bet this game? I want to take Sam Houston at home in their best situation all season to grab a win, but I just don’t see it. I am taking UTEP -3.

These teams are both awful, and in just about every metric you can find. Sam Houston is giving up nearly 500 yards of offense to opponents every week, and they are outside the top 115 (out of 134 teams) in both rushing and passing yards allowed. And that includes a schedule with Hawaii, New Mexico State, and Jax State on it. They can’t stop a nosebleed. Of course, UTEP is not great on defense either, but they rank ahead of the Bearkats in both categories. The question in this game is which defense can get a stop. Sam Houston has been looking better of late, even while losing, but UTEP is the better team (but probably in the same sense that you might like a rotten apple more than a rotten banana). This is a midweek game between two bad teams, so we know how this will go—it will swing on some sort of goofy play, and every betting website will be running “bad beat” clips before bedtime. But I am still going with the Miners on the road as the better squad, as I don’t think the Bearkats win a game this season.
