The early spotlight at the 121st U.S. Open Championship will fall on Jon Rahm and Phil Mickelson — unless, of course, Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka wind up brawling in the Torrey Pines South car park.
Rahm is the clear favorite, his odds seemingly shortening with every passing second, and the betting community clearly believes that the Spaniard is set to spectacularly avenge his Memorial heartache. A positive COVID test ended Rahm’s Memorial title charge — he was six shots ahead through three rounds when told he would have to withdraw — and that mesmerizing Muirfield Village performance has got the attention of everyone.
Rahm put a new putter in his bag at the start of Memorial week and fell in love with his fresh wand, so confidence levels are high. He had no COVID symptoms and was able to escape quarantine last Saturday, so has had time to prepare for the U.S. Open. Rahm won the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey in 2017 and loves the layout.
His odds have just become too contracted to consider, though, and there has to be a chance that his Memorial fireworks were the result of mental freedom which nobody seems to be addressing.
Rahm was told early at the Memorial that he may have come in contact with somebody who had COVID — contact tracing hinted he was in strife — so the player was aware his week could be cut short. Maybe a carefree attitude sparked the burst of form, but he will be anything but carefree around Torrey Pines, where only two men finished under par in the last U.S. Open there.
Mickelson, looking to complete a career Grand Slam at the age of 51, could also carry a furrowed brow as the brutal set-up takes no prisoners.
Preference is for two Californians who are relishing the prospect of tackling a super-tough tee-to-green assignment in their home state. Collin Morikawa won his first Major in California — at Harding Park in the PGA Championship last year — and he tops the PGA Tour greens-in-regulation statistics arriving for this one.
He has already won a WGC this year, was eighth in the PGA Championship, and second in the Memorial last time out. Most of the serious trouble at Torrey is left, so Morikawa’s natural fade will be working towards safety, and this looks a fantastic opportunity for the best iron player of his generation to claim a second Major title.
Will Zalatoris, who finished sixth, second, and eighth in the last three Majors, grew up putting on poa annua greens and says he loves them. He finished seventh in the Farmers at Torrey Pines in January. This greens-in-regulation machine is made for U.S. Open combat.
Top Continental European Pick
Bettors seeking a prop bet should consider Viktor Hovland for top European. If Rahm flops as favorite, Hovland could emerge as Europe’s best hope.
He won the U.S. Amateur at Pebble Beach and has quickly shown he can handle Major venues. Nobody scored better than Hovland at Torrey Pines South in the Farmers in January.

PGA Golf Predictions Explained
There are many PGA golf predictions you can make ahead of a tournament from trying to predict the outright winner, the first-round leader, or an array of player prop bets. With such a large field heading into every PGA tour event, however, finding winning golf predictions isn’t always the easiest of tasks. Our experts here at Pickswise put in the time and research so you don’t have to. We go through all of the player form and statistics, including recent results and previous course results, as well as factors such as the weather conditions, schedule, and more ahead of making our PGA golf predictions each week. All of our golf predictions are accompanied by a full tournament preview, player previews, and all of the key stats and trends, regardless of which market we’re predicting. Golf Predictions This Week
Golf tournaments come round thick and fast with action taking place on most weekends of the year. This gives you little time to study the preview week’s play as well as conducting your research for the upcoming event and figuring out who the course will suit most and which players are in the best form. Here at Pickswise, we take care of that for you with our free golf predictions this week. Our experts follow the PGA tour intently, watching every shot, and all of the action as well as conducting hours of research into player stats, form and previous course finishes before making our Golf Predictions This Week. Check out this week’s golf predictions and analysis from Wednesday onwards!
Golf Predictions For Today
Aside from our main tournament predictions which we post prior to the start of the event, we also have golf predictions today. Golf is a great sport to bet on whilst the tournament is in play and our experts are on hand to seek out the best value golf predictions for today’s play. The main two ways to bet on the tournament whilst in-play is still on the outright winner, your favorite prediction may have had a slower than ideal start on day 1 so you could get better odds for them to win outright, or you can bet on 3-ball matchups as to who you think will win that day’s play from each group of golfers sent out together. These are both great ways to bet on golf for that added interest during the event whilst you watch along. Be sure to check out for the Pickswise golf predictions today throughout the tournament and into the weekend.
US Open Golf Predictions
The Masters aside, the US Open Golf tournament is one of the most anticipated events of the year. The US Open has a long illustrious board of winners and always attracts the biggest names in the sport. With that, it is a highly competitive event, and unlike The Masters, the course in which it is played changes each year. This in itself is a nuance that must be considered in US Open Golf predictions, with other tour events played at the same course, usually a good indicator of which players the likely conditions will suit. Our experts will make their US Open Golf Predictions in good time leading up to the US Open and all of our predictions will come with full analysis and all of the key facts and statistics to consider ahead of your wagers.
When Do You Post Your Golf Predictions
We aim to post our golf predictions on Wednesday every week leading up to a tournament. By then our experts will have had time to digest the previous weekend’s play, as well as to conduct our extensive research into player form, previous course form, and the likely conditions they’ll face. This research allows us to whittle down what can be a daunting field size, to a handful of key contenders and best value golf predictions. Once we’re locked in, we’ll post our golf predictions as well as our analysis and all of the key stats for you to digest ahead of day one of the tournament.
