The early tip-off on Sunday sees the Boston Celtics trying to extend their streak to 5 wins in a row, as they take on the Orlando Magic. One could argue the Cs have had a favorable schedule so far, with 4 of their 5 games being home. However, regardless of that this team has impressed with a pair of double-digit wins over Chicago and solid performances in the clutch vs the two New York teams. I’ve been impressed with the way Jayson Tatum has played – he’s done a fantastic job at getting his teammates involved, averaging 2.5 assists per game more than last season and 1.8 per game more than he did pre-injury.
Speaking of injuries, the Magic know a thing or two about that, unfortunately. Right now they have Paolo Banchero, Jalen Suggs and Jonathan Isaac all out, so it’s no wonder they’re off to a somewhat slow 2-3 start to their season. They did win 2 out of 3 on their recent East coast road trip, however this team is still looking to win their first home game in 3 attempts. In Banchero’s absence it has been Franz Wagner who has added to his responsibilities. However, the Magic struggle heavily to put up points on the board, averaging just 109.8 ppg which ranks 7th lowest in the league. Apart from the Minnesota game earlier, this will arguably their toughest task in terms of opponent strength on defense.
Being without very important pieces and still searching for their first home win of the year, I expect the Magic to play with a lot of heart in this one. Boston has won 3 meetings in a row and are favored to extend that streak on Sunday, however two of those wins were by less than 6.5 points, which is the spread here. I’ll give Orlando the benefit of the doubt at home and back them to cover.
Celtics vs Magic Predictions: Magic +6.5 is available at time of publishing. Playable at that numbers.
