NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year best bet: Bryce Young (+500)

The consensus #1 pick from the 2023 NFL Draft isn’t the favorite to win this award? Color me confused. Bryce Young was the most pro-ready quarterback in this year’s draft and everyone agreed that he would make an immediate impact in whatever offense he ended up in. With the first pick in the draft, the Carolina Panthers got their guy. The quarterback situation in Carolina in the past few years can best be described as a carousel, but bringing in Young should hopefully bring the constant turnover to an end. Post-Cam Newton era, the Panthers have gone through Kyle Allen, Teddy Bridgewater, Sam Darnold, P.J. Walker and Baker Mayfield and have had no success. The Panthers needed a quarterback of the future, and I think that can be Young.

Carolina knew that with a young quarterback comes rookie mistakes, so they needed to surround Young with veteran players. So far, the Panthers have done an excellent job of that with their off-season signings. They brought in Andy Dalton to back up Young, and although Dalton wasn’t signed just to be a mentor… he pretty much was. The next step was upgrading the receiving corps and their backfield to give Young some help, and those signings came in the form of Adam Thielen, DJ Chark, Hayden Hurst and Miles Sanders. Sanders will help take the pressure off of Young whenever needed, and bolstering the receiving corps with veteran route-runners should certainly assist Young. The bottom line is Young has already been named the Week 1 starter and is bound to make an impact in several different ways. At 5/1 odds, I’m backing Young to be named the Offensive Rookie of the Year.

NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year longshot bet: Jordan Addison (+1700)

Jordan Addison’s NFL career started in a not-so-great way. Minnesota’s 1st-round pick made headlines when he was pulled over by state troopers going 140 MPH in his brand-new Lamborghini. The headline sounds bad, but Addison claims it was a “dog emergency”, so I’ll buy it! But back to the gridiron — Addison has immense talent. The former USC Trojan was Caleb Williams’ favorite target last season as he totaled nearly 1,000 yards with 8 touchdowns. That came after an incredible 2-year career at Pitt as Addison totaled 21 touchdowns and over 2,000 yards. The speedy receiver has exceptional hands with above-average route running, and now without Adam Thielen, he has the chance to make an early impact in Minnesota’s offense.
