Best New York Giants vs San Francisco 49ers touchdown scorer bets: George Kittle gets his first score

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle (85) reacts after catching a pass for a two-point conversion in the third quarter of a wild card game against the Seattle Seahawks at Levi's Stadium.

This week on Thursday Night Football, we have the New York Giants traveling to California to take on the San Francisco 49ers. The Giants come into Week 3 with a 1-1 record, but they were very close to being 0-2. As for the Niners, they’ve won their first 2 games rather easily. For Thursday’s matchup, I’ve taken a look at the any time touchdown scorer market and have a best bet for each team.

San Francisco 49ers touchdown scorer best bet: George Kittle, TE (+190)

The books have realized that if the 49ers are going to score, it’s likely going to be via Christian McCaffrey. The Stanford product is heavily juiced to score, so you’ll likely find his odds around -200, which is far too steep for me. Instead, I’ll look to a different 49ers threat – George Kittle. In Weeks 1-2 against the Steelers and Rams, Kittle hauled in 6 catches for 49 yards. Obviously, those numbers don’t jump off the page. However, it’s not Kittle’s fault. He has to compete with McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk for Brock Purdy’s attention. In Week 1, Purdy’s attention was set on Aiyuk. Purdy fed Aiyuk for 8 catches for 129 yards and 2 touchdowns. In Week 2, it was Deebo’s turn as he caught 6 passes for 63 yards and had 5 rushes for 38 yards and a touchdown. And McCaffrey doesn’t get a certain week since he’s always involved in the offense, so maybe it’s Kittle’s week this time?

Just because Kittle hasn’t been too involved yet doesn’t mean it will stay like that forever. Looking back at last season, Purdy took over in Week 11 and here are Kittle’s stats from Week 11 to Week 18: 29 targets, 20 catches, 286 yards and 5 touchdowns. Kittle became one of Purdy’s favorite targets once Mr. Irrelevant took over, so I’m expecting that chemistry to return on Thursday night.

New York Giants touchdown scorer best bet: Daniel Jones, QB (+290)

Available at FanDuel Sportsbook at time of publishing

Similar to San Francisco, I would have loved to have taken New York’s running back to score. But unlike McCaffrey, it’s not because his odds are juiced – it’s because he’s hurt. Saquon Barkley suffered an ankle injury during New York’s Week 2 comeback win against the Cardinals and will be out for a few weeks. So the question becomes, who will become the end zone threat for the Giants? Instead of Matt Breida or Darren Waller, I think Daniel Jones will find his way in for 6. Jones has the most rushing yards of any quarterback heading into Week 2 with 102 yards. That certainly surprised me considering there are much faster quarterbacks in the league who tend to rush more like Justin Fields, Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts.

With Barkley out, Jones may find himself running some more. His rushing prop is set around 40 yards, which means oddsmakers once again expect him to scramble and use his legs throughout the game. I can see Jones finding the end zone by the pocket getting flushed and needing to escape in the red zone, and instead of trying to thread the needle, he takes it in himself. Ideally, the Giants are within 10 yards for this pick to have a chance. At 3/1 odds, it’s hard to ignore the speedster’s odds.
