I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. With just 4 NHL games on the board on Wednesday, our options are a bit limited. However, we hit 2 plus-money plays last night and have still found a couple of great spots to target tonight. They’re going to be familiar names and certainly recognizable ones. Regardless, we’re getting solid prices on them given they’re on the road. Despite that, the matchups and prior success against their opponents are too great to ignore. Again, they’re skaters we’ve used recently, but with the light slate of action on the ice, we’re going back to the well.

Along with our player props, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.

Alex Ovechkin over 0.5 goals (+105)

In terms of continuing his quest, Alex Ovechkin is out to inch closer to Wayne Gretzky’s record for most goals scored in NHL history. It’s a mark that was thought to be untouchable, but Ove is well on his way. After a hat-trick against the Chicago Blackhawks last month, he broke the 800 barrier. He’s just the third skater to do so and is now at 809. The all-time record is 894, and we’re backing Ove to get to at least 810 tonight. He and the Washington Capitals will be taking on the Philadelphia Flyers, who just pulled off a performance of a lifetime.

They shut out the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night, but all that does is help us get a better price with Ovechkin on the road. These teams are playing back-to-back games against one another, and Ove has already feasted on the Flyers twice this season. He scored 2 goals in their most recent matchup, and 1 in the game prior. In his career, he’s also had 77 points in 69 games against Philly, 46 of which were goals. Feel free to back him to record multiple points tonight, but at least 1 of them should be him finding the back of the net.

Connor McDavid over 1.5 points (-165)

When it comes to skaters and props for multiple points, it’s almost always an opportunity to get a great plus-money play. However, McDavid is the exception. No matter who he’s matched up against and no matter if the Edmonton Oilers are on the road, he’s still not at plus-money for this play. That speaks to just how dominant he is, and he’s worth the price. He’s on pace to win his 5th Art Ross Trophy for the NHL’s point-leader, which will also be his third in a row. His 77 points are 15 more than the next closest skater, who happens to be his teammate, Leon Draisaitl.

Of course that provides more opportunities to record points, especially against the Anaheim Ducks. The Oilers let down their guard against one of the league’s worst teams and lost to the Ducks last month. However, Anaheim is still the only team allowing over 4 goals per game this season. Better yet, McDavid still recorded multiple points in that loss. No matter what, he is always here to carry this team. Not only did he have strong individual performance in that game, he recorded 3 points against the Ducks twice last season, and 2 more points in their other meeting. The Oilers need to get their revenge tonight, and McDavid should lead the way.
