I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. Rasmus Dahlin over 0.5 assists (-150)

The first puck drops in Buffalo with the Sabres hosting the Washington Capitals. These are both Eastern Conference teams trying to make a push for a playoff spot, making the matchup all the more important. They’re also both coming off big wins. The Sabres defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers on the road on back-to-back nights, while the Caps took down the New York Rangers yesterday afternoon. However, that game 24 hours ago puts Washington at a disadvantage.

Starting goaltender Darcy Kuemper was in net, which puts backup Charlie Lindgren between the pipes today. His last start was a loss to arguably the worst team in the NHL, the Anaheim Ducks. Prior to that was a loss to the team just above them in the standings, the San Jose Sharks. If those teams can get the puck past him, the 3rd-highest scoring team in the NHL certainly can. One of the primary reasons Buffalo’s offense has been so potent has been Dahlin linking up with Tage Thompson. Dahlin is 2nd on the team with 62 points through 56 games, 48 of which have been assists. That’s tied for the 8th-most assists in the NHL, and his 26 minutes of ice time per game is the 3rd-most in the league. He assisted Thompson for a goal against the Caps just last month and can certainly do the same with a backup goalie in net today.

Mats Zuccarello over 0.5 assists (-150)

Just an hour after our first play gets started comes our second assist prop. This one is a Minnesota Wild skater as they host the Columbus Blue Jackets. These teams faced off on Thursday and the Jackets were in action again yesterday. They shocked the Edmonton Oilers, but don’t let that fool you. Columbus still has the worst record in the Eastern Conference by far and has allowed the 3rd-most goals per game. Even in their upset yesterday, they still allowed 5 goals in the process. Now the Wild get to face them on the second leg of a back-to-back, and superstar Kirill Kaprizov has scored in 3 straight games against the Jackets.

However, we’re playing it a little safer and backing his linemate for our official play. Of course, skating alongside Kaprizov is the most likely way Zuccarello will notch this assist. However, we have much more of a cushion, as he can link up with anyone, rather than needing it to be Kaprizov to find the net. Zuccarello has 56 points through 57 games, 36 of which have been assists. That’s always been his calling card. He finished last season with 79 points in 70 games, 55 of which were assists. Zuccarello had an assist in each meeting last season, and we’re expecting the trend to continue today.
