I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. Saturdays in the NHL always bring a ton of action, and that would be an understatement this weekend. We have all but 2 teams (Avalanche and Coyotes) in action. That means hundreds of skaters on the ice as well. To go along with your favorite sides and totals, the player prop market also provides plenty of value. We’ve found our 2 favorite spots for today’s matchups. With our first play featuring a skater in one of the afternoon games, let’s get right into it.

Elias Lindholm over 0.5 assists (+100)

It’s not one of the earliest games of the day, but our first play is still featured in one of the afternoon games. The Calgary Flames will be clinging on to their playoff hopes when they host the San Jose Sharks. While the Anaheim Ducks catch a lot of flak when it comes to their defense, the Sharks are sinking even further. In fact, since the start of 2023, they’ve allowed the 2nd-most goals per game. They’re also the only team left in the NHL yet to reach 20 wins on the season. Therefore, it’s no surprise we expect a big day from the Flames, specifically Lindholm.

He feels like the true leader of this team, and his 61 points through 71 games help support that. Of this 61, 40 have been assists. Teammate Tyler Toffoli is 1 goal away from 30 on the year, so we expect him to be the one taking shots all game. Regardless, Lindholm can link up with anyone, which he’s known to do against the Sharks. These teams met twice in 3 nights earlier this season, with Lindholm recording a ridiculous 6 points, 4 of which were assists. He’s had at least 1 assist in 4 of his last 5 games against San Jose, and we expect that success to continue with how deep the Sharks have sunk.

Kris Letang over 0.5 assists (-120)

After the Sharks vs. Flames game wraps up, it will nearly be time to enjoy our 2nd play. The Pittsburgh Penguins are still fighting for an Eastern Conference Wild Card spot as they take on a heated rival in the Washington Capitals. This has been one of the best rivalries since Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby joined the league as the first picks in the 2004 and 2005 NHL Drafts. They’ve obviously lived up to their hype, but we aren’t targeting either one of those future Hall-of-Famers. Instead, we’re focused on a skater that has been one of Crosby’s partners in crime for what feels like forever.

Letang re-signed with the Pens to stick with Sid the Kid and Evgeni Malkin, and the defenseman is nearly always on the ice. He just recorded nearly 28 minutes of ice time in their most recent game, which didn’t even include overtime. Letang’s numbers may not jump off the page at you, but he’s a pivotal part of this Pens team. He’s also consistently stepped up to the plate in this rivalry. Letang has recorded an assist in 3 of his last 4 games against the Caps and has 11 assists in his last 15 games against them. Washington is also allowing the 8th-most goals per game this calendar year. With all that in mind, we anticipate Letang getting involved in the scoring tonight.
