I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. After going 2-0 last night, we’re on a nice 13-4 run, so let’s stay hot. Monday marks the start of a new week, and the perfect day to bring in the profit. Whether you’re building on your weekend success or need to bounce back, we have you covered. There’s 6 NHL games on the ice tonight, with several great spots to target. The Vegas Golden Knights look prime to bounce back themselves, taking on a struggling Columbus Blue Jackets squad. However, we aren’t even using that low-hanging fruit. We’ve found value elsewhere, including a skater you may have never heard of. Along with our player props, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.

Victor Hedman over 0.5 points (-130)

Victor Hedman was a staple for our player props last season, and cashed in for us during the first week of the season. It’s only fair that we head back to the Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman and show some love. He’s a former Norris Trophy winner for the NHL’s best d-man, and also has a Conn Smythe Trophy to his name for the MVP of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The 6-foot-6-inch monster hasn’t slowed down a bit. He’s still leading the team with just under 25 minutes of ice time per game, and still skates alongside 2 of the most prolific goal-scorers in NHL history.

His overall points so far this season don’t jump off the page, but don’t expect that to continue. He and the Lightning get to face a Buffalo Sabres team that is allowing the 9th-most goals per game. Another angle on this game involves the Sabres also being able to score themselves. Tampa will likely have backup Brian Elliott in net for tonight’s game in preparation to have starter Andrei Vasilevskiy ready for tomorrow’s game against the Boston Bruins. That means the Lightning will have to keep pace with Buffalo, increasing opportunities for Hedman to link up with Kucherov or Stamkos to find the back of the net. This should really be the price of his assist prop, so we’re getting great value on the overall point prop.

Roope Hintz over 0.5 assists (-115)

Hedman is one of the most well-known skaters on what is the closest thing we’ve had to a dynasty in quite some time. However, the Dallas Stars have a much lesser-known skater who has proven to be just as vital to his team. The Stars have their own version of the Bruins’ “Perfection Line”. Their top 3 skaters all stick together on their top line — Jason Robertson, Jason Pavelski and Roope Hintz. The young Robertson has already made a name for himself, and Pavelski is a seasoned veteran. Hintz may go under the radar, but his 24 points in 21 games would say otherwise.

Oddsmakers are giving us a solid price for this prop, likely with the Stars on the road and Hintz not recording a point in 2 straight games. However, he had a 12-game point streak prior to that, including 4 games with multiple points. Better yet, Hintz has recorded at least a point in every game but 5 so far this season. He has yet to face the St. Louis Blues this year, but he should be able to begin a new streak tonight. The Blues are allowing the 6th-most goals per game overall and at home.

It’s also worth noting that Hintz is alongside Roberston and Pavelski on the first power play unit as well. This situation is the opposite of Hedman’s, where Hintz’s overall point prop is far too inflated at -240. Even if he scores a goal early on, it wouldn’t be surprising for him to add an apple on top later on.
