Washington Capitals left wing Alex Ovechkin (8) celebrates with teammates after scoring a goal against the Philadelphia Flyers in the second period at Capital One Arena.

There are five games for Friday’s NHL slate, we’re going to take a deeper dive into two of the matchups and choose two player props we think will provide good value and will have a great chance of hitting. Games are starting at 7:00 pm ET and the final game of the night starts at 10:00 pm ET. Connor McDavid and Alex Ovechkin have shown no signs of slowing down.

Connor McDavid over 3.5 shots (-118)

McDavid is the best player on the planet; it’s not up for debate anymore. He helps his team produce offense in every facet of the word, and is currently leading his team in shots on goal with 52 in 12 games.  That’s an average of 4.33 per game, which should intrigue bettors. Admittedly, McDavid can be “give and take” when it comes to shots, some nights he’ll have one shot, other nights he’ll have nine shots, but that usually depends on who his opponent is. In an easier matchup, like tonight against the Sabres, McDavid tends to take the game into his own hands. Against Seattle, Vancouver, Vegas, teams where he has an easier matchup he’s had four or more shots easily.

Going up against the Sabres, McDavid could smell blood in the water. This will be a much easier game compared to last night, where McDavid had four shots; but he knows he can’t have that mentality, it’s burned him in the past. Following a massive comeback last night, don’t expect McDavid to take his foot off the gas. Take him getting 3.5 shots on goal tonight.

Alex Ovechkin over 4.5 shots on goal (+110)

For the first time all season, Ovechkin did not record a shot on goal in his last game played. Because of this, oddsmakers may be undervaluing his ability to generate shots on net. Prior to the last game, he had a seven game streak of five or more shots, and a four game streak of six or more shots. Going shot-less in the last game should tell bettors he’s coming back with a vengeance in this game, he’s looking to catch Gretzky’s goal record and the only way to do that is to get pucks on net. +110 odds are incredible odds for Ovi’s track record this season, considering they’re playing the Columbus Blue Jackets, the team that allows the most shots on goal per game with 34.8, it’s a recipe for Ovechkin to get back on the horse with a good offensive game. Take Ovechkin to get 4.5 odds; you’re getting great value here.
