It’s been a long road, but we’ve reached the final game of the 2023 NFL season. Super Bowl 58 is here and we have a heck of a matchup in store, as Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs will take on Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey and the San Francisco 49ers for the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Mahomes, Andy Reid and company are looking to capture their 3rd Super Bowl in 5 seasons but in their way stands the resilient 49ers, having rallied from 2nd-half deficits in each of the last 2 weeks to reach this point.

The Pickswise team has been absolutely on fire with their touchdown scorer prop picks throughout this 2023 NFL campaign, so let’s keep the momentum going! Here are my best first and last TD scorer bets for Super Bowl 58.

Super Bowl 58 First Touchdown Scorer Bet: Travis Kelce, TE, KC (+800)

Odds available at FanDuel Sportsbook at time of publishing.

Fading Travis Kelce in the postseason is generally a losing proposition, and we’ve seen exactly why over the last 3 weeks. While Kelce did not look like his usual self in the regular season, the Chiefs tight end has had a telepathic-like connection with his quarterback in the playoffs to this point. Through the first 3 games of this Kansas City playoff run, Kelce has racked up a whopping 23 receptions for nearly 300 yards and 3 touchdowns, all while averaging over 11 yards per catch. It doesn’t hurt that the Chiefs’ veteran tight end will get an extra week to rest up after he battled a few nagging injuries to finish out the regular season. All of this points to a very productive Super Bowl Sunday on the gridiron for the top tight end in football.

We can expect Kelce to be fresh and to be involved immediately on the Chiefs’ first possession of the game. It doesn’t hurt that Kelce scored the game’s first touchdown last week against Baltimore and scored Kansas City’s first touchdown in last season’s Super Bowl against the Eagles. At these odds, it’s hard to pass up the value on Kelce in this market.

Super Bowl 58 Last Touchdown Scorer Bet: Christian McCaffrey, RB, SF (+450)

Odds available at FanDuel Sportsbook at time of publishing.

I tried to hone in on a larger odds bet for this market, but it was hard for me to target a Chiefs player considering I believe that Kansas City will be ahead for the majority of the contest. This leads me to a 49ers team that I expect to be playing from behind in the 4th quarter, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they’ll be throwing the ball downfield with an increased frequency. After all, Kyle Shanahan’s system doesn’t change much when trailing and we saw McCaffrey involved plenty when San Francisco trailed against the Packers and Lions over the past 2 games.

This is still a team that targets their All-Pro running back in the receiving game and finds him when the game is on the line. McCaffrey scored the last 49ers touchdown in the 4th quarter against Green Bay and scored the touchdown to tie the game against the Lions in the conference title game. It wouldn’t surprise me if he finds the end zone to cut into the Kansas City lead before Mahomes ices the game and runs out the clock on the following possession.
