Could Jimmy G's lack of throwing hurt the 49ers?

49ers huddling up

The San Francisco 49ers are trying to talk up Jimmy G heading into their Super Bowl game against the Kansas City Chiefs, but inside there has to be some major panic. All the talk surrounding the 49ers is the team hasn’t needed Jimmy G to have success, but there is one thing very clear, they don’t trust him to throw the ball to victory. It’s one of the reasons why Jimmy G under passing yards is one of our Super Bowl prop bets.

The Talk around the team

Let’s breakdown what Jimmy G, and others are saying heading into this matchup about their trust to get the job done through the air.

“Everyone has different ways to get motivated, and very similar to Sherm, I do the same thing,” Garoppolo said, via NFL.com. “I hear all the stuff and everything, but you can’t put that all out there all the time. You have to do with it what you will and take it for what it is. Just at the end of the day, you’ve got to go out there and play football.”

Joe Staley also stood by his teammate talking about the games where they have had to lean on Jimmy G to win ballgames.

“We’ve had plenty of games this season where we’ve really had to lean on him heavily to win the games for us, and he’s come through every single time,” left tackle Joe Staley said. “I think that’s a storyline because we didn’t throw the ball obviously the last game, but we didn’t need to. I think that’s also a strength of Kyle, is that he’s going to do whatever it takes to win the game. And whatever he feels is working the best, is what we’re going to do.

The truth about the numbers

The team is trying to talk him up, but inside they can’t be very confident. He hasn’t attempted 30 or more passes since December 15th, a game they lost to the Atlanta Falcons.

In the last game against the Packers he only threw for 77 yards and it seemed they purposely took the ball out of his hands.

There is a chance the 49ers could run the ball and have success. But what happens if the running game isn’t working? They are going to put the ball in his hands, and he is going to fail. He will miss open receivers and turn the ball over.

Jimmy G is going to be of the three major reasons, the Chiefs win the Super Bowl.
