The wild rollercoaster that is the 2022 NFL offseason continued this week after it was revealed that 49ers star receiver Deebo Samuel has requested a trade away from San Francisco. The news, which was broken by ESPN’s Jeff Darlington, comes after weeks of speculation and will no doubt cause plenty of teams to start scrambling to secure Samuel’s services. This NFL offseason has already seen the likes of Tyreek Hill and Davante Adams traded, and we now look set to add another of the league’s top receivers to the list.

Deebo Samuel trade destination

The news of Samuel’s trade request has been as much a betting discussion as it has been an NFL discussion. Some sportsbooks, notably PointsBet, have priced up the odds for which team will acquire Samuel over the next weeks or months. It will be fascinating to see what happens, especially with the 2022 NFL Draft now a week away.

Let’s break down the best potential landing spots for Deebo Samuel.

Below are the current Deebo Samuel trade odds, courtesy of PointsBet. All bets are void if Samuel remains with the 49ers at the start of next season.

Deebo Samuel best landing spots

Deebo Samuel to New York Jets

Samuel being traded to the Jets would make a lot of sense. After all, the Jets have plenty of draft capital to make it happen and have shown already this offseason that they are willing to spend big in order to bring in a top pass-catcher, as we saw in their failed pursuit of Tyreek Hill. Jets GM Joe Douglas has proven himself to be a shrewd operator and it will be interesting to see if they come in for an offer for Samuel. It will be equally as interesting to see if Samuel would be happy to move to New York.

Deebo Samuel to Green Bay Packers

There has been some talk about Samuel going to Green Bay, but I can’t see it. Why would the Packers trade away Adams after refusing to pay him, only to trade for Samuel and inevitably have to pay him? It makes no sense to me, even if it comes with the allure of playing with Aaron Rodgers.

Deebo Samuel to New Orleans Saints

The Saints have bigger things to worry about right now, like finding their QB of the future. It would be a surprise if they emerged as a strong candidate for Samuel.

Deebo Samuel to Philadelphia Eagles

This would be an interesting move. The Eagles defied expectations to reach the playoffs last season and look to have a good thing going with Jalen Hurts under center. Given Samuel’s dual threat as a receiving/rushing hybrid, it would be cool to see him playing alongside Hurts.

Deebo Samuel to Indianapolis Colts

The Colts will once again have a new quarterback under center in the 2022 season after trading for Matt Ryan with the Falcons. But will they have a new No. 1 receiver? T.Y. Hilton is a free agent and Samuel would fill that gap nicely.

Deebo Samuel to Atlanta Falcons

Over the past two years we have seen the Falcons lose both Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley, but it’s hard to see them bringing in Samuel as a replacement. This team is thin at receiver and having Marcus Mariota as starting QB isn’t the most ideal situation. There are more likely scenarios out there.

Deebo Samuel trade prediction and best bet: New York Jets (+300)

It may not be the most glamorous prediction, but Samuel being traded to the Jets makes a lot of sense and is the most likely move for the receiver. As touched on above, the Jets proved in the Hill saga that they are clearly in the market for a big-name wideout and prepared to pay the big bucks in order to get one.

New York also has a lot of draft capital it could use to get Samuel, as they have two first-round picks (both in the top 10) and two early picks in the second round. Whether Samuel is happy going to a team that has not made the playoffs in more than a decade is another question, but on paper the Jets would be the best bet to make on the Samuel trade market at +300.
