The Georgia Bulldogs have become the preeminent program in college football following back-to-back national titles over the last 2 seasons. Kirby Smart has become one of the few coaches to break away from Nick Saban and experience consistent success at the Power 5 level. In fact, it’s now Alabama who is looking up at Georgia in an interesting role reversal in the SEC. The Bulldogs lost a ton of talent to the NFL from last year’s team, including a number of defensive stalwarts and quarterback Stetson Bennett. However, this program is a heaven for 5-star recruits on both sides of the ball and the overall depth of this roster is still the best in all of college football. With a new quarterback and offensive coordinator on the sidelines, can Georgia make it a 3-peat? Let’s get into my best bets.

Georgia Bulldogs 2022 Season Recap

The 2022 season ended with Georgia capturing its second straight national championship in emphatic fashion with a 65-7 drubbing over TCU in a game that was over by halftime. The dominant effort in the title game capped off a season where the Bulldogs were head and shoulders better than nearly every team. In fact, their only close games came against Missouri on the road midway through the regular season and a nip-and-tuck affair with Ohio State in the College Football Playoff semifinals. It was a season to remember for a program that is at the top of the college football world.

Georgia Bulldogs 2023 College Football Season Outlook

If there was any cause for concern for Georgia heading into the 2023 season, it would be that the Bulldogs will need to replace a myriad of pieces from one of the best defenses in college football history over the last 2 seasons. However, this is a terrific coaching staff on the defensive side of the ball and the Bulldogs are bringing in a ton of 5-stars to bolster their depth across the board. Much like Alabama before them, this team doesn’t rebuild, it reloads. The bigger concern could be on offense, where Mike Bobo comes in to replace Todd Monken as offensive coordinator, a move that raised some eyebrows in the college football world. New quarterback Carson Beck is also an unknown, but he should be protected by a terrific offensive line and put in a position to succeed.

Best Bet: Georgia Bulldogs to win the SEC (-110)

Odds available at FanDuel Sportsbook at time of publishing.

The glass-half-empty case against Georgia was one that I laid out in the above section. Sure, there’s absolutely a world in which the Bulldogs’ offense isn’t nearly as efficient and effective as it was with Bennett and Monken at the helm a season ago. In the same vein, Georgia has never been a quarterback-dependent program, and I don’t expect Carson Beck to be demonstrably worse than Stetson Bennett.

Beck will have the luxury of throwing to Brock Bowers, who could be the best college tight end in the last decade. He also won’t have to do much for most of the regular season given how friendly this schedule is for a Bulldogs team that is already more talented than the rest of the top programs in the country. It is extremely likely that Georgia will be double-digit favorites in every game this season, except for a trip to Knoxville, Tennessee in November. This gives us a very favorable number on the Bulldogs to win the SEC, given that they’ll likely be undefeated and a favorite of at least a field goal in the conference title game. While a team hasn’t won 3 straight national championships since before World War II, Georgia should find itself back in the College Football Playoff with a chance to make history.
