The new chapter of Mexican soccer got off to a great start at the CONCACAF Gold Cup with a first-minute goal against Honduras leading to a 4-0 win. Former coach Diego Cocca was fired in the wake of the 3-0 loss to the United States in the semifinals of the CONCACAF Nations League but that opening result should have gone some way to rebuilding confidence, especially with top contenders the USMNT and Canada having both dropped points already. Haiti scored right at the other end of its opening game, with a goal in the seventh minute of added time leading to a 2-1 win over Qatar.

The game between these unbeaten teams kicks off at 10:00 pm ET on Thursday at State Farm Stadium in Arizona and will be shown live on FS1. Our expert has the odds, predictions and a best bet for Mexico’s second match of the tournament.

Haiti vs Mexico expert picks

Mexico vs Honduras best bet: Mexico -1 (3-way spread) (-105)

Mexico left some big names out of its youthful squad for the CONCACAF Gold Cup, with all but one outfield player being under the age of 30. Despite that El Tri strolled to a win in their Gold Cup opener, beating Honduras 4-0. They were joined at the top of Group B by Haiti, who struck deep into added time to beat Qatar 2-1. The underdogs are on a 6-game winning streak, but many of those successes came against CONCACAF’s lower-ranked teams.

Haiti was hammered 4-1 by Canada at the 2021 Gold Cup and another heavy loss looks likely in Arizona on Thursday night. Mexico has an excellent record in this competition over the years and has been handed a straightforward group. The Mexicans should be able to extend their stellar defensive record and Haiti can’t match the talent Mexico has, such as Ajax star Edson Alvarez. Mexico made a high-scoring start to the Gold Cup and should breeze by Haiti too, so I’ll take them on the 3-way spread to win by at least 2 goals.
