4:07 pm Gulfstream Park (Race 9) – Sea Hunter 12/1 (1-star play)

Race 9 at Gulfstream Park is a wide open Allowance Optional Claimer over an extended mile on the turf, and one who can go well at a price is Sea Hunter — who won his maiden here and is trying Lasix for the first time. Since that debut victory, Jorge Ruiz’s mount has finished mid-pack in 2 runs in this grade, both of which were over sprint trips, but the combination of the step up in distance and Lasix can see him hit the board at double-figure odds.

4:37 pm Gulfstream Park (Race 10) – Arthur’s Ride 5/2 (2-star play)

William Mott’s Arthur’s Ride has finished 2nd in both of his starts to date whilst recording an improved speed figure on his most recent outing, and he looks to have every chance of making it third time lucky in this. Both of those runs were over 7 furlongs at Saratoga and he shaped as though a step up in trip will suit, which he gets here and he has a good draw in stall 3 from which he has plenty of options.

5:06 pm Gulfstream Park (Race 11) – Yes I Am Free 6/1 (1-star play)

The penultimate event at Gulfstream Park is the Grade 3 Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint Stakes, which features a field of older horses going to post over a 5-furlong trip. Yes I Am Free, who was a comfortable winner of this last year, can take the prize again for Laura Cazares and her team. This admirable gelding has won 8 races at this course and comes into this off the back of another course and distance win, so I see no reason why he shouldn’t go well again.

5:36 pm Gulfstream Park (Race 12) – Incitatus 20/1 (1-star play)

A field of 13 is set to go to post for the finale, in which Telephone Talker is likely to take some beating. But it can pay to look elsewhere as there’s plenty of value around and my attention is turned to Incitatus, who went close in a similar contest last time out. Edgar Bayeh’s 5-year-old gelding is a 2-time winner in this Claiming grade and has been given a good draw in gate 5 — from which he can stalk the pace under Ivan Pimentel Jr.
