KBO picks and predictions

Friday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

KT Wiz -1.5 (-120) over Hanwha Eagles

The Hanwha Eagles picked up a win to close out their series with the Kia Tigers on Thursday, beating them by a score of 4-1. The Eagles are now 30-64-2 on the season, but remain in last place in the league standings. They will start Kim Min-Woo on Friday morning, who is 3-8 on the season and has an ERA of 4.76. In 19 starts this season, he has allowed 54 earned runs over 102.0 innings.

The KT Wiz lost to the NC Dinos by a score of 4-3 on Thursday morning to close out their series. They are now 50-42-2 on the season and are in 4th place in the league standings. The KT Wiz will counter with Ko Young-Pyo on Friday morning, who is 9-5 on the season and has an ERA of 2.90. In 18 starts this season, he has allowed 39 earned runs over 121.0 innings.

The Eagles pulled the upset on Thursday, but are still the worst team in the KBO by a huge margin. The KT Wiz have a clear advantage on the mound for Friday’s game, therefore backing them to win will be the play.

SSG Landers -1.5 (-126) over Samsung Lions

The Samsung Lions crushed the Doosan Bears by a score of 9-2 on Thursday morning. They are now 39-55-2 on the season and remain in 9th place in the league standings. The Lions will start Hwang Dong-Jae, who is 1-2 on the season and has an ERA of 7.11. In 13 appearances this season (10 starts), he has allowed 40 earned runs over 50.2 innings.

The SSG Landers won their game against the Kiwoom Heroes on Thursday, beating them by a score of 6-5 in extra innings. They are now 65-29-3 on the season and continue to sit in 1st place in the league standings. The SSG Landers will counter with Wilmer Font, who is 13-4 on the season and has an ERA of 2.04. In 20 starts this season, he has allowed 31 earned runs over 135.0 innings.

There is a huge pitching mismatch here on Friday, as Font is one of the best in the KBO, while Dong-Jae has struggled this entire season. For that reason, backing the SSG Landers to win comfortably will be the play.

Kiwoom Heroes vs LG Twins – Under 7.5 runs (-116)

The total looks to be the better play because of how good both starters have been this season. Choi Won-Tae has allowed 4 or more runs in just 3 starts this season. In his last 5 appearances (4 starts), he has allowed 5 earned runs over his last 23.1 innings. In his lone start against the Twins, he has allowed just 1 earned run over 5.1 innings.

On the other side, Casey Kelly has allowed 4 or more runs in 3 starts this season. He did allow 4 runs in his most recent start, but that was against the KBO’s best team in the SSG Landers. In his last 5 starts, he has allowed 6 earned runs over 33.0 innings. Based on the recent form from both starters and the overall dominance from both of them this season, backing the under will be the top play for Friday.

Bonus KBO picks and predictions for Friday, August 5

Doosan Bears ML (-118) over Kia Tigers

Both the Doosan Bears and Kia Tigers lost on Thursday and will need to bounce back here on Friday. The Bears will start Waddell Brandon, who will be making his KBO debut, while the Tigers will be starting Lee Eui-Lee, who has an ERA of 4.11. Even though Brandon is making is his debut, Eui-Lee has not been consistent enough, therefore backing the Bears will be the play.

NC Dinos ML (+100) over Lotte Giants

The NC Dinos will start Shin Min-Hyeok, who has an ERA of 4.23 this season. He does have an ERA of 2.00 against the Lotte Giants this season, which is why backing the Dinos looks to be worth a play.
