KBO picks and predictions

Friday’s slate features plenty of opportunities for value. Let’s dive into the day’s best bets.

KT Wiz vs Kiwoom Heroes ML (-162)

The KT Wiz managed to pick up a win on Thursday morning, beating the Kia Tigers by a score of 5-3. The KT Wiz are now 10-12 on the season, but still find themselves tied for 6th place in the standings. They will open a 3-game series with the Kiwoom Heroes on Friday and will be scheduled to start Um Sang-Back. He is 0-1 on the season, but has a decent ERA of 3.29. In 5 appearances (2 stars), Sang-Back has allowed a total of 5 earned runs in 13.2 innings. His last start was the longest of the season, allowing 2 earned runs in 6.0 innings.

Thursday’s game was tight for the Kiwoom Heroes, but they managed to hold on and beat the Hanwha Eagles by a score of 3-1. The Heroes are now 13-10 on the season and continue to hold 5th place in the standings. If they expect to move up in the standings, these are the games they need to win against teams in the bottom half. The Heroes will counter with Choi Won-Tae, who is 2-0 on the season, and has an ERA of 1.29. In 4 starts this season, Won-Tae has allowed a total of 3 earned runs in 21.0 innings.

Both of these teams have won 2 games in a row, but the Heroes have the advantage on the mound on Friday. They have been the better team this season, so backing them to win on Friday behind Won-Tae will be the play.

Hanwha Eagles vs NC Dinos – Under 8.5 runs (-108)

Even though the Dinos managed to score 9 runs on Thursday, this looks to be a spot where the under could be the better play. The Dinos are last in the KBO in total runs and are averaging 3.30 runs per game. The Eagles are only slightly better, ranking 9th in total runs and they are averaging 3.43 runs per game. Defensively, they are both near the bottom of the league as well, however; both starters have been decent this season. It is hard to expect both offenses to score a ton here, with Song Myung-Gi looking better as of late and Nam Ji-Min having a solid yet short first start. For that reason, backing the under will be the play in a game between 2 of the worst teams in the league.

Doosan Bears vs SSG Landers – Over 9.5 runs (+108)

The total should likely be considered the better play based on the fact that both pitchers can give up runs in a hurry. Especially Ivan Nova, who allowed those 9 runs to the Hanwha Eagles, who are near the bottom in the standings. The SSG Landers also still have the best offense in the KBO, averaging 4.48 runs per game. The Bears on the other hand, are averaging 3.73 runs per game, but given the struggles from Nova, there is no reason to believe he will all of a sudden throw a gem. Defensively, the Bears are allowing 3.95 runs per game, which should allow the SSG Landers to bounce back after being held to 1 run on Thursday. Neither starter has their best stuff at the moment, so backing the over will be the play.
